About the Role:
Join a high-performing Test Architect team and contribute as a subject matter expert across all stages of the missile test process. This role is ideal for technically-driven engineers with experience in electronic circuit design, testing, failure analysis, and test equipment design. You will be involved in feasibility studies, series production, and in-service support for missile programmes, helping define test strategies, BIT architectures, and improving testability across projects.
Reporting to the Test and Testability Department Head and, from a project perspective, to the Project Chief Design Engineer, this role provides scope to grow technical expertise, lead work packages, and influence test and testability strategy across multiple programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define project test strategies and Built-In Test (BIT) architectures
- Develop and maintain technical requirements for test equipment
- Analyse production test data to identify trends and diagnose failures
- Participate in Red-Team reviews and support critical issue resolution
- Support new product bid activities and departmental strategy
- Mentor and actively support team members
- Lead or participate in technical work packages and manage associated risks
- Provide technical leadership and influence senior stakeholders
What We're Looking For:
- Degree-level education (or equivalent) with significant experience in electronic test across all project lifecycle stages
- Expertise in electronic circuit design, testing, and failure analysis techniques
- Experience in test equipment design and requirements capture
- Knowledge of Design for Testability (DfT)
- Ability to lead technical work packages alongside project managers
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive technical direction
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness to travel within the UK and EU as required

Position Summary
The Systems Test Architect provides technical and strategic leadership on design, development and test. Driving a culture of innovation, technical excellence and delivery responsibility; enabling efficient development of cutting-edge Class 3 Medical Devices in an ISO 13485, 21 CFR PART 820 and MDR quality management system environment.
Listed below are the major responsibilities of the role and a brief description of some of the key tasks to be performed. This list is not totally exhaustive.
This is an onsite position based in Oxford with flexibility.
Major Responsibilities
Under direction from the Director, Systems Engineering, the Systems Test Architect will be responsible for:
- Author and maintain the System Test strategy and roadmap of developments.
- Conducting the analysis, trending and insight generation of insights to identify risks and capitalize on opportunities.
- Lead activities for high level system design, through all stages of technical development and across the business structure in with company goals and technology strategies.
- Ensuring test design and testability input to enable DfT and DfR of System, Mechanical, Electronic, Software and Digital Health designs.
- Researching technologies and making informed recommendations for their introduction based on best practice and project/company goals.
- Comprehensive system test of designs in the product and project portfolio to ensure criteria are met across a range of attributes including function, performance, safety, interface and reliability.
- Collaborate with and advise key stakeholders to gather and understand needs and technical specifications, working closely to ensure alignment.
- Supporting, coaching and mentoring engineers across the business in the development of their Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.
- System Test Engineering SOP & WI that enable Design Verification and Validation. Including Plans, Sample Sizing, Methods, Protocols, training, execution, analysis and reporting.
- Selection recommendations, development and qualification of tools and systems.
- Integrating relevant DHF content and technical activities for products across the project portfolio to achieve efficient, compliant delivery.
- Contributing to performance metrics and their review, identifying improvement opportunities and implementing development plans.
- Collaborate with colleagues, teams throughout the business and external resources to ensure adherence to architectural guidelines, best practice and timely execution.
- Supporting engineers with completion of the relevant records for test activities in the DHF, DMR and DHR; facilitating the regulatory submission process and ensuring the capability for future development and maintenance of designs.
- Adhere to the letter and spirit of OrganOx’s Code of Conduct and all other company policies
Requirements
Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in developing test strategies, infrastructure, and tool qualifications.
- Hands-on experience working with external test houses to ensure compliance with IEC 60601 standards.
- Strong understanding of sample size development and statistical justification.
- Experience with audits and regulatory submissions, including preparation and presentations to regulatory bodies.
- Experience with software driven mechatronic devices, precision control and hydraulics.
- Experience with Class 2 or 3 medical devices and familiarity with the unique challenges in this field are desirable.
- Advanced knowledge of medical device testing tools and technologies (desirable)
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the regulatory environment, including FDA, IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 62366 and other relevant standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
- A well established and proven track record in systems testing within the medical device industry, preferably with Class 3 devices.

The Role
This role focuses on developing and maintaining automated test equipment to ensure the high quality and performance of our products. You will guide projects through requirements elicitation, design, development, test, release and support. Outside of test, you will use your experience and knowledge to create robust and efficient solutions to assist in other areas of the company, as well as driving best practice and industry standards. Solutions will include a multi discipline collaboration of skills and departments.
Responsibilities & Tasks
- Design and develop internal software using a selection of programming languages (Python / C#/ C++ / LabView), to support the manufacture and testing of our Graphene electronics products.
- Support the development of automated test equipment by writing software to communicate with hardware for motion control and data acquisition.
- Support the integration of production systems (MES/ERP) with internal software applications, e.g. through the development of APIs.
- Design and integrate Microsoft SQL databases for test data storage, manufacturing tracking, and system configuration.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and data engineers throughout a system’s development and production life cycle.
- Troubleshoot systems issues involving both software and hardware.
- Maintain effective communication with cross-functional stakeholders to elicit functional and non-functional software requirements, ensuring alignment with business / product needs.
- Own Solution Project Plans and reporting of progress & updates to Management.
- Take a proactive approach to CI/CD and Testing, ensuring best practice and longevity is at its core and provide professional documentation and frameworks.
- Manage Git repositories as administrator, deciding on permission and workflow setups.
- Manage subordinates’ workload and line management as and when required.
- Maintain and promote excellent understanding of software design principles for efficient and maintainable code.

Education and Qualifications

Experience

- 3+ years of experience in automated test equipment software development for manufacturing and system integration.

- Experience with agile workflow and supporting software (e.g. Jira).
- Experience designing and maintaining database architectures in relational databases.
