The International Public Policy Manager will join a dynamic team that works across Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and Asia Pacific, in support of Amazonu2019s global consumer and digital businesses. Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, forward-thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers. The International Public Policy team works with a wide range of national, local, and supranational policymakers, industry organizations, and non-governmental organizations across policy issues spanning the consumer and commercial environment - including but not limited to digital technology, consumer affairs, connectivity, economic development, e-commerce exports, logistics, devices, and tax.
This role will support advocacy and outreach to policymakers for Project Kuiper, Amazonu2019s initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
Key job responsibilities
The Senior Manager will work closely with cross-functional Kuiper teams, including Regulatory, Business, and Legal, to drive campaigns and manage senior policymaker engagement across Sub-Saharan Africa, including defining strategy, executing advocacy campaigns, and managing engagement with multilateral and regional organizations, as appropriate. The Senior Manager will communicate with consultants and trade associations and represent the company at conferences and meetings. The Senior Manager will also be able to immediately and directly enhance Amazonu2019s advocacy on a broad range of telecoms and space-related policy issues. The position may be based in London or another location in Sub-Saharan Africa where Amazon has corporate offices.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Relevant experience dealing with the international legislative and regulatory policy process, preferable within the telecoms, connectivity, space, or technology industries.
- Relevant experience in advocacy and using spoken and written arguments to persuade and inform.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in relevant field.
- Availability to travel domestically and internationally, as appropriate.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately (written and oral).
- Strong knowledge of connectivity/telecoms, spectrum, space, or other regulated industry policy issues.
- Able to demonstrate experience through previous work within companies, consultancies, trade associations, the government, or equivalent organizations
- Able to demonstrate relevant regional experience across multiple countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Sets a course in the face of ambiguity to deliver independently, asking the right questions, clearing blockers, and escalating appropriately. Self-starter who can take general direction and produce specific results.
- Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at all corporate and political levels. Ability to work with technical and specialized teams to distill factual, relevant and easily understandable talking points and other messaging, and persuasively deliver it to relevant audiences.
- Maintains highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity, with strongest professional reputation in the industry.
- Ability to identify key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize for internal and external customers.
