Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Traffic Engineer to undertake design and provide technical support within the Traffic and Transportation design team. This is an excellent opportunity to assist the Principal Engineer working on a varied range of traffic management and public realm projects.

Responsibilities

Preparation of solutions at various design stages of a project; preparation of drawings, reports, specifications and estimates

Oversee the design, development and implementation of traffic engineering solutions including Traffic Regulation Orders, speed limits, traffic calming measures, pedestrian crossings and minor improvement schemes

Support and assist in planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances, including all gateway controls

Prepare technical reports for both internal and external purposes

Provide technical support including project advice and design assessments

Prepare / check project design briefs

Manage multi-disciplinary teams to deliver a wide variety of complex projects

Develop and deliver of a programme of works for the Client, managing all stages

Undertake technical work checks and approvals of drawings, Health and Safety packages and communications programmes

Resolve technical problems and issues to support the delivery of projects or design objectives

Resolve enquiries from Councillors, the public and stakeholders to support the delivery of the contract, projects or design objectives

Build and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external business partners, customers and clients

Manage, monitor and report financial and resources stage assessments for Senior Management and Clients

Prepare and develop bid opportunities with partners and stakeholders

Reporting back to DfT /TfGM and other Stakeholders, supporting programme development and bids

Assist less experienced colleagues in ensuring compliance with pre-defined standards

Assist with continuous improvement in the services provided by the team

Take ownership of personal development in order to build professional capability

Qualifications

HNC/BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or similar and be working towards or have attained Chartered status of the Institution of Civil Engineers / Institution of Highways and Transportation or similar

Client focused approach to service delivery

Design experience within a traffic engineering environment

Knowledge of relevant design standards including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions

Experience of designing and implementing Traffic Regulation Orders

Experience of designing a variety of schemes; parking management, cycling, traffic calming, priority working, minor highways, bus lanes etc

Experience of undertaking consultation with residents/businesses, stakeholders, councillors and other third parties

A proven knowledge of Community Engagement and how it can be utilised in a Traffic & Transportation environment

Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Road Traffic Regulation Act; the Local Authorities Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations; the Traffic Management Act; the Highways Act and the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations

Awareness of Road Safety Audit procedures

Experience in working on both Local Authority and Capital maintenance and /or developer-led schemes as part of a multi-disciplinary design team

Knowledge of traffic and / or highway design products, standards and protocols for scheme development and delivery

Experience in policy and report writing

Experience of developing Highway Capital programmes

Experience of budget monitoring and project management

Understanding of street works permit schemes

Understanding of CDM Regulations

Experience in developing safe systems of work and risk assessments

**Lead the way in sustainable transport and join AECOM as a Principal Highways & Traffic Engineer in Manchester,** we are looking for relevant experience in leading the delivery of a broad range of traffic and highway engineering projects and being responsible for work winning activities. A successful track record in the management and delivery of a portfolio of traffic engineering projects - particularly sustainable infrastructure projects and roads/traffic engineering projects - ensuring technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief. Following successful accreditation on the AECOM project management system, your will act as a Project Director/Project Manager including monitoring financial performance and key performance indicators. Comprehensive training on AECOMu2019s project management system will be provided.
A successful track record of client relationship building, developing sound client relationships, being alert to commercial opportunities, identifying emerging opportunities and developing strategies to fully exploit them.
Demonstrative evidence of taking ownership in preparing detailed proposals, client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to or lead bids. You will also work with colleagues to deliver marketing and business development objectives in both the local region and nationally
A proven ability to manage a team, with strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and maintain a highly motivated project delivery team. This includes being a pro-active Line Manager, managing career progression of line reports, and supporting and monitoring team skills to ensure they are up to date with current best practice, techniques, and innovation.

A market leading Engineering client of ours who specialists in designing, installing and supporting Airside technology across the globe are currently in the market for a Senior Systems Engineer to join the UK team and to lead engineering aspects of project deliveries, including carrying out on-site works at customer sites UK and internationally, site management responsibilities, developing project design solutions and identification and procurement of installation materials.

This is a hands-on role requiring technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and customer- facing professionalism.

Day-to-day duties include.

  • Working as part of a team, carry out the installation of equipment at customer sites in accordance with project design solutions.
  • Development of project design solutions in coordination with other team members, and presentation of design solutions both internally and to customers.
  • Assist with the specification and procurement of installation materials, and organise the purchase and hire of plant, machinery and tools for projects as required.
  • Undertake Site Management roles and responsibilities (subject to required training) to comply with H&S and CDM regulations
  • Conduct site surveys prior to equipment installations in order to ensure that all requirements for the installation of equipment are fully understood
  • Consolidate and pack equipment and materials prior to shipping to site, and be responsible for deliveries to site, ensuring that all tools and equipment needed are available.
  • Provide supervision of civil works to ensure compliance with design.
  • When required, responsible for the provisioning and supervision of local labour to assist with on-site activities.
  • Supervision and coordination of sub-contractors such as civil works engineers and local labour.
  • Production of detailed drawings and plans for installation, and as-built documentation including revised drawings and cable schedules.
  • Commissioning of Navaids & Meteorological Equipment
  • Delivery of training courses to customers.
  • Qualified First Aid responder

Knowledge/Skills required for the role

  • Electronics / Electrical Engineering Background
  • Experience in an electrical/electronic systems installations
  • Experience of working on Airports/Airside Technology
  • Good, proven working knowledge and understanding of construction industry practices (CDM Regulations), and health and safety to SMSTS standard.
  • Knowledge of MS Visio an advantage
  • Working at Height certification an advantage
  • Ability to accommodate travel world-wide at short notice, possibly for several weeks at a time
  • Methodical, organized, practical and self motivated with "hands on" attitude to work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Computer literate: MS Office
