You will be working for our Hatfield DTS site - A major picking depot, employing more than 180 colleagues and operating a fleet of more than 80 vehicles. The depot serves major convenience retailers in the region.

What You'll Be Doing
  • To direct the transport team to ensure operational compliance with statutory requirements and group policy, achievement of budgetary targets and contractual key performance indicator's and the continuous development of the function in line with Greencore's strategic goals
  • Provide leadership and direction to the team to ensure that they are engaged, focused, developed and delivering to their potential
  • Promote and monitor operational practices, using available tracking tools, to ensure that safety and compliance with the road traffic act are always the critical priorities
  • Oversee the maintenance of the vehicle fleet to ensure compliance with the vehicle check and servicing practices, cleanliness, food safety requirements and leasing agreements
  • Maintain close communication with Greencore sites and customers to ensure that all parties are kept informed of any schedule or revised collection or delivery times
  • Establish programmes to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and utilisation of the transport
  • Construct budgets and associated drivers' rota and communicating any required changes from the planning team. Review resource plans in response to any changes so that the planning team can make required changes manage spend to ensure maximise cost efficiency whilst delivering on key business objectives
  • Ensure use of Greencore handheld delivery technology to ensure accurate customer billing
  • Monitor key performance indicator and budget performance to identify and implement continuous improvement programmes

What we're looking for

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC is a legal requirement for holder of the operating license)
  • Previous experience in Transport Management and strategic distribution modelling
  • Highfield Level 2 or experience of building a safety-first culture
  • Evidence of leading and engaging with geographically disbursed teams
  • Evidence of setting and managing budgets and promoting cost efficiency
  • Evidence of delivering business improvement through the application of Lean practices
  • Working with Customers to build sustained relationships

  • Handle incident reports, driver performance, and disciplinary matters as necessary.
  • Work closely with the Traffic Assistant, who will provide support and report directly into the Transport Manager.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with company policies and compliance requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and customer experience.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Transport Manager or similar role within the passenger transport or logistics sector.
  • Strong knowledge of transport legislation, compliance, and driver hours regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate staff across multiple levels.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make sound operational decisions.
  • A CPC in Passenger Transport Management is highly desirable.

Transport Operations Manager                              Essex              

I am working with a well-established, rapidly expanding waste resource business that now have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Operations Manager to be based on site in London.

You will be responsible for overseeing the coordination and direction of transport operations.

As Transport Operations Manager some of your responsibilities will be but not limited to;

  • Inspecting transport vehicles, ensuring their safety and checking to see if they need maintenance work; Organising and maintaining the efficiency of the entire transport service; Arranging routine maintenance of vehicles; Communicating with vehicle drivers, ensuring that they are kept up to date with relevant training and/or qualifications; Organising and scheduling transport staff shifts; Conducting risk assessments of transport systems; Organising training and development days for transport staff; Working out a strategy that factors in customer satisfaction and ease-of-use.

***NOTE: In order to be considered for this role you MUST have worked as a Transport Manager within the recycling industry previously; CPC; FORS is desirable; have waste management experience ; have excellent communication and IT skills and a full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK
