What does the role involve?
As the Transport Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Operations and take a proactive role in managing and developing the transport operations to ensure the highest standards of service, compliance, and efficiency. You will oversee a team, manage fleet maintenance, and ensure all operational procedures are followed to meet KPIs and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Fleet Management: Take full ownership of fleet maintenance and compliance across all vehicles, ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements.
• Team Management: Lead and develop the team to ensure consistent adherence to operating procedures and KPIs, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Customer Service: Act as the primary point of contact for all delivery-related queries and resolve any delivery issues promptly, ensuring exceptional service delivery.
• Delivery & Operations Management: Plan and organize deliveries, coordinate transfers between depots, prioritize hospitality orders, and manage fuel card usage and agency driver cover.
• Planning & Coordination: Ensure effective daily route planning, manage absences, holidays, and breaks, and react swiftly to challenges and spikes in workload.
• Team Performance: Develop the team through training and performance management, ensuring they meet objectives and addressing performance issues swiftly.
• Continuous Improvement: Strive for excellence in customer service by ensuring all orders are completed within agreed timeframes, product availability is communicated promptly, and the safe and secure loading of customer orders.
• Third-Party Coordination: Handle third-party delivery quotes and support depot export customers with quotes, queries, and delivery requirements.
What qualities will you need to be successful?
• Experience: Proven background in Transport and Logistics management, ideally within large space wholesale, retail, grocery, B2B, or B2C sectors.
• Leadership Skills: A natural leader with a strong ability to inspire and manage a team, driving performance, and customer satisfaction.

We are looking for an experienced Transport Manager to be based in our Hatfield Office.
General Overview
As the Transport and Depots manager, you will have responsibility for the management of all the vehicles, maintenance of equipment and the depots throughout the UK & Ireland. You will manage the fitters to ensure they are able to maintain the vehicles and the equipment on the vehicles to the standards as laid out in the Statutory Document for Transport Managers, and ensure all the depots are maintained in accordance with HSE and Statutory guidelines. You will be responsible for ensuring all operators of company vehicles are legally compliant and safe to be driving as per the company driving policy. You will liaise with the contracts managers, supervisory technicians and the operations team to ensure compliance with HSE and DOT standards are upheld. You will be responsible for the production of weekly & monthly management reporting on the status of the depots and the vehicle maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Your responsibilities will include those covered by law as determined by the statutory document for Transport Managers issued by the Senior Traffic Commissioner, ( )
- Main business contact for all queries relating to vehicles, maintenance, depot management and transport management
- Manage the fitters to ensure they are in the right place at the right time to be able to support the fleet maintenance requirements and that company procedures are adhered to
- Control stock levels for maintenance materials
- The management of UK & Ireland depots
- Regularly monitor safety standards at the depot and reports to the SHEQ Director any concerns

MacGregor Black is partnering with a Distribution Business on the search for a Transport Manager. This is a perm role based in Swindon.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily delivery operations including route planning, driver supervision, and vehicle scheduling.
- Ensure all deliveries are completed accurately, on time, and in line with customer expectations.
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of delivery drivers and support staff to maintain high performance and morale.
- Monitor and report on key delivery KPIs including OTIF (On Time in Full), customer satisfaction, and fuel efficiency.
- Ensure all vehicles are maintained, inspected and compliant with relevant legislation and company policies (including DVSA standards).
- Work closely with the warehouse and stock control teams to ensure accurate and efficient dispatch of orders.
- Manage driver rotas, holidays and absence to ensure continuous delivery coverage.
- Investigate delivery discrepancies, delays or customer complaints, and implement effective resolutions.

What We're Looking For:
- Proven experience in delivery/logistics/transport management, ideally within an FMCG distribution environment.
- Strong understanding of UK road transport legislation and compliance.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Competent in using routing/transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to process improvement.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) desirable but not essential.
