The EU Transportation Specialist is a key contributor to Leica Biosystems' global logistics strategy, responsible for managing transportation operations across Europe and supporting international shipments. This role goes beyond administrative tasks, requiring advanced problem-solving and strategic thinking to optimize carrier performance, reduce transportation costs, and improve service levels.
You will lead carrier relationships, analyze transportation data to identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement initiatives that mitigate price increases and improve delivery outcomes. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, understands freight economics, and can translate data insights into actionable strategies.
This position reports to the Sr. Manager Global Transportation and is part of the Global Supply Chain Team located in Newcastle, UK and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
+ Lead European carrier relationships, including performance reviews and Quarterly Business Reviews, ensuring service quality and cost efficiency.
+ Analyze transportation data (e.g., cost per kilo) to identify trends and develop strategies that reduce spend and mitigate carrier price increases.
+ Drive logistics improvements by evaluating shipping models, origin points, and modes of transport to enhance delivery outcomes.
+ Oversee Freight Audit and Pay (FAP) systems, including vendor onboarding, coding accuracy, and payment resolution.
+ Collaborate with European Sales Units to deliver monthly and quarterly performance insights, supporting both internal and external customer needs.
The essential requirements of the job include:
+ Bachelor's degree preferred in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
+ Minimum of 3 years' experience in transportation or logistics.
+ Experience in freight carrier contract tendering and bidding.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Proven ability to manage carrier relationships and performance.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
+ 15% travel
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
+ Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
+ Familiarity with SAP.
+ Knowledge of Freight Audit and Pay systems.
