An excellent opportunity has become available for Underwriters to join a global financial services provider. The job is available on either a hybrid or remote working basis (please note that initial training in the office is expected as is 1 day a month for team building purposes and attendance when business needs arise).
The salary range is dependent on the level of experience and mandates (between £30 - £38k).
Key responsibilities include:
- Handle dealer enquiries professionally via phone and email.
- Support the conversion of declined finance applications into acceptable proposals within risk guidelines.
- Manage deferred applications by following up promptly and thoroughly.
- Assess referred finance proposals within delegated authority; escalate when needed.
- Interpret financial statements to make informed credit decisions.
- Investigate CIFAS alerts diligently and escalate potential fraud cases.
- Proactively flag operational issues and suggest practical solutions.
- Meet departmental KPIs and service standards.
- Collaborate across departments to support operational goals.
- Contribute flexibly to team tasks as required.
- Maintain compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and relevant legislation (e.g., Consumer Credit Act, Money Laundering, Data Protection).
- Actively safeguard the business against fraud and financial risk.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Asset underwriting experience is preferred, however candidates with Banking Underwriting, including Mortgages will also be considered as well as Insurance Underwriting.

Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to underwrite and process all new home finance applications from receipt of application through to offer. Manage conversations and communications with brokers and internal colleagues effectively to ensure overall positive customer experience. The incumbent will be required to ensure service levels are maintained whilst being mindful of the Credit Risk Governance frameworks in operation within the Bank, such as KYC (Know Your Customer) and Fraud Awareness.
Please note - the position is office based with a Hybrid Working policy with flexibility to work from home up to 3 days a week.
Role Duties
- End to end case ownership to ensure overall positive broker / customer outcome.
- Assess and underwrite new business cases in a pragmatic manner and within Credit Policy KYC guidelines to support the aim of the Bank to be recognised as a Specialist Financer by brokers and customers.
- Demonstrate a desire to underwrite cases by, where appropriate, suggesting alternative options on how a case may be acceptable whilst still fully complying with Credit Policy and KYC governance.
- Compose Finance rationale that ensures Finance decision is clearly structured and documented covering both credit and CDD (KYC/Anti Money Laundering) in line with policies and any potential risks mitigated.
- Work cases in an efficient manner utilising the processes and policies in place to contribute to the business meeting agreed Service Level Agreements both internally and externally.
Required Skills
- Experience in a similar role within a mortgage environment
- Risk awareness and Regulatory standards awareness
- Knowledge of MCOB

Underwriting position within the General Liability London market operation. The role will have both a personal and collective responsibility for supporting the future growth and profitability of the General Liability portfolio by underwriting business in line with our appetite and partnering with wholesale and retail brokers to build and maintain relationships, and assist them with their client's insurance needs.
Job Responsibilities:
+ Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet planned underwriting results, through proactive account review, analysis of underwriting trends, use of supporting tools and raters, and improvement plans to maintain profitability.
+ Negotiate account participation, pricing and terms and conditions with brokers.
+ Underwrite in line with General Liability risk agreed strategy - e.g. Underwriting Authorities, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles.
+ Support development and execution of the General Liability global underwriting and marketing strategies.
+ Work closely with the GL team to drive development opportunities, whilst maintaining a balanced portfolio
+ Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business through both market and one-on-one meetings with our Insureds / potential Insured's.
+ Develop and maintain strong relationships with key Brokers. This may include overseas travel on behalf of the team.
+ To keep abreast of development of claims within the GL book and to liaise with the claims team as necessary to support appropriate settlement of claims.
+ To contribute, as required, to the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of Underwriting results as required.
+ Followed assigned underwriting authority and adequately document account files.
+ This role will be based in London, UK and you are required to have the necessary right to work details prior to application.
Experience:
+ Relevant experience within the UK Liability and / or International GL marketplace
+ Broad knowledge of all classes of business written within the HIG Group
+ Willingness to continue to develop knowledge of Insurance and related issues through formal and informal learning
+ Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external business partners
+ Team player with ability to work on a stand-alone basis
+ Energetic, self-starter with solid time and desk management skills, able to prioritise and organise workload
+ Goal and detail oriented, with superior technical & sound decision making and analytical skills
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
Other:
+ Business level English
+ Degree or equivalent combination of education/experience preferred
+ Second Language skills advantageous
