Underwriting Officer – The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our Risk Management team. This role is essential in evaluating merchant applications, assessing risk profiles, and making informed underwriting decisions to protect the company whilst assisting business growth. The Senior Underwriter will review and complete underwriting and credit analysis of applications by applying sound underwriting judgement and adhering to company policy. You will also support the Underwriting Team Lead in communicating company goals and deadlines, as well as helping to develop junior team members and train new starters.

Underwriting Officer – Key Responsibilities:

- Evaluate merchant applications for payment processing services, conducting thorough risk assessments

- Analyse financial statements, business models, and credit reports to determine merchant risk levels

- Make independent underwriting decisions based on established risk criteria and company policies

- Review high-risk or complex merchant applications, providing recommendations

-  Collaborate with Sales, Compliance and Fraud teams to balance risk management with business objectives

- Stay current with industry regulations, card scheme rules and emerging fraud trends

- Assist junior underwriters and contribute to the development of underwriting policies

- Prepare detailed reports on underwriting activities and risk metrics

Underwriting Officer – You:

- 3-5 years of underwriting experience within merchant acquiring, payment processing or financial services, with a strong preference for B2B underwriting experience

- Knowledge of card scheme regulations (Visa, Mastercard) and payment industry compliance requirements

- Analytical skills with ability to interpret financial statements and assess business viability

- Experience with AML/KYC procedures and fraud detection methodologies

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics or related would be beneficial

- Experience underwriting high-risk merchant categories (ideally including crypto, gambling, and other regulated sectors) with knowledge of appropriate risk mitigation strategies

- Experience with underwriting automation systems and risk scoring models

- Analytical skills to identify and assess potential fraud and compliance issues

What the day will look like




Assisting Underwriters in the processing of new and renewal accounts for a Global Binding Authority Facility.


Supporting a portfolio of different insurance classes of business.


Supporting our offshore team with timely completion of post bind administrative processes.


Accurately recording risk details on our Policy Administration System in a timely fashion.


Liaise with brokers and internal departments for risk information.


Assisting with compiling reports for insurers.

AUM focuses on commercial insurance products across Accident and Health, Property and Casualty, Financial Lines and Marine sectors.
