Avencia are partnered with a global insurer who are looking to recruit an Underwriting Operations Analyst in their London office.
The role
This role sits within the Private Clients and Crisis Management hub , providing operational services and pre-bind/post-bind support to underwriting teams across Single Risk Crisis Management, Contingency, A&H, Fine Art, and Bloodstock .
The position works closely with underwriters, brokers, and the operations team to deliver efficient support, ensure data quality, and drive process improvements . It's an excellent opportunity for someone with insurance experience who is interested in developing a career in underwriting operations .
Key accountabilities
Underwriting Administration
- Manage shared mailbox and correspondence.
- Enter policy data, endorsements, and underwriting information into systems (e.g. Enora, Doxis, RE7).
- Ensure efficient workflow from start to finish.
Data Quality
- Monitor and review policy data to ensure compliance with quality protocols.
- Maintain error rates in line with company standards.
Managing Relationships
- Deliver excellent service to underwriters and brokers.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across the business.
Risk & Controls
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and underwriting guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date process documentation.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities for efficiency gains.
- Support enhancements to operations processes, systems, and projects.
Credit Control
- Investigate and reconcile accounting queries (e.g. DSIGN reports, account issues).
Reporting & MI
- Assist with KPI, regulatory, and ad-hoc reporting.
- Provide data analysis to support underwriting and operations teams.
IT
- Use underwriting and operations systems confidently.
Engage in user groups to support system development and adoption.
Skills & experience

- Previous insurance industry experience (operations/underwriting desirable).
- Knowledge of the London Market and underwriting practices (advantageous).
- Strong MS Office skills (Outlook, Excel essential).
- A-level or equivalent qualification minimum.
- Working towards CII qualifications desirable (or equivalent experience).

This is an operational role, suited to someone who enjoys optimising processes, supporting underwriting teams, and delivering operational excellence.
The role
This position sits within the Long Tail hub of the Operations team. The team works closely with Professional Lines, Financial Lines, and Credit & Political Risk Underwriters based in London.
The Underwriting Operations Analyst will provide operational services, including Pre-Bind and Post-Bind support to underwriters.
In addition, the role involves working with the Operations team to refine support provided to underwriting teams and transforming processes to ensure efficiency and high service standards.
This role would suit an individual with prior experience in the insurance industry, with a background or interest in operational work.
Key accountabilities

- Manage the team mailbox and ensure correspondence is handled efficiently
- Transfer underwriting information and correspondence into the document management system where appropriate
- Input data for all policy types and endorsements using the underwriting data entry system on behalf of the team
- Enter data into any relevant team systems
- Ensure timely, efficient and accurate workflow processes are followed from start to finish
Data Quality
- Monitor and review policy data input, ensuring compliance with data quality protocols
- Maintain error rates in line with company standards and expectations
Managing Relationships
- Support the Operations team by delivering high-quality service to the business
- Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with underwriters and brokers through excellent service
Risk and Controls
- Ensure all risks comply with regulatory and compliance checks, in line with underwriting guidelines and group policies
- Implement and maintain process controls to ensure accuracy and quality of output
Process Improvement
- Make suggestions for process improvements within your role
- Enhance the effectiveness of services and systems used in the Operations team
- Participate in special underwriting projects where required
Credit Control
- Reconcile and investigate accounting queries, including regular reports and account-specific queries
Reporting
- Support MI and regulatory reporting when required
- Analyse data and prepare reports for underwriters and the wider business
IT
- Develop a strong understanding of IT systems used within the role
- Attend key user groups to remain informed of system changes and provide feedback

- Previous experience in an insurance role

Business Insurance helps companies in the UK and Ireland identify, prepare for and mitigate risks by offering a broad array of industry-specific, combined property and casualty insurance solutions to customers. The Underwriting Manager serves as a technical leader and subject matter expert, providing specialized underwriting guidance and technical oversight for the underwriting team. This role focuses on maintaining underwriting excellence, developing technical capabilities across the team, and serving as an escalation point for complex risk decisions while ensuring portfolio profitability and growth.

**What Will You Do?**
+ Serve as the primary technical referral point for complex, unusual, or high-exposure risks, providing expert guidance on policy interpretation, coverage analysis, and risk assessment.
+ Manage and develop the profitability, growth, and retention of the Technology portfolio, analyse portfolio performance metrics with focus on technical risk quality, identifying trends in loss experience and recommending appropriate underwriting adjustments, monitoring aggregate exposures and recommending portfolio balancing strategies.
+ Ensure Practice adheres to Underwriting processes and guidelines through regular review of cases and underwriting, handling and communication.
+ Identifying any necessary corrective actions and providing feedback and coaching to support teams learning and development.
+ Coach, train and lead others by example to ensure the successful execution of the sector strategy, through a focus on Technical Underwriting Knowledge, Sector Underwriting Knowledge, Sales and Business Development Skills, a Portfolio Approach, Sector Immersion, Personal Profile and Networking
+ Analyse sector and product trends to develop and optimize our proposition and deliver the best customer outcomes.
+ Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the regions and across the enterprise to support the technical underwriting, profitability and growth of the portfolio.
