Lead UI Designer – Part-Time Contract
Kita Education – Remote / Flexible
Kita is building the next generation of tools for Computing and AI education. We’re looking for a talented and dedicated lead UI designer to define the visual look and feel of our IDE—an opportunity to truly make your mark. Ideally, you’ll bring experience in edtech or a background in programming/Computer Science to help us refine and elevate our platform.
The role
You’ll take the work we’ve built so far, audit the current user interface, and make clear, actionable recommendations to improve navigation, usability and look and feel for teachers and students. With your understanding of how coding is taught and learned, you’ll help ensure our platform feels intuitive for both learners and educators.
What you’ll do
- Audit our existing UI design with a focus on navigation, clarity, and accessibility.
- Define colour palette based on initial brand documents
- Refine visual style guide.
- Recommend improvements that support Computing and classroom use.
- Create wireframes, mockups, or prototypes to illustrate changes.
- Work closely with product and dev teams to ensure recommendations are implementable.
About y ou
- Proven experience in UI design for web apps, ideally in edtech or learning platforms.
- Background in programming or understanding of IDEs (you understand how coding is taught).
- Strong grasp of navigation design, information architecture, and responsive/mobile-first design.
- Able to bridge user needs with technical implementation.
