Our client requires a highly experienced Senior Electrical Systems Design Engineer to join their innovative team based in Glasgow, Scotland, UK . This is an on-site position critical for the design, development, and implementation of complex electrical systems, particularly focusing on power distribution and control. You will be responsible for leading design efforts, ensuring systems meet stringent performance, safety, and regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, power systems, control logic, and hardware integration. You will work on challenging projects, from conceptual design through to final commissioning, collaborating closely with project managers, mechanical engineers, and software developers. Your expertise in CAD software for electrical schematics, detailed knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., IEC, BS), and hands-on experience with system testing and troubleshooting will be crucial. This role offers the opportunity to work on significant projects that impact the company's core operations and technological advancements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the electrical system design for new projects, from concept through to detailed design and specification.
  • Develop comprehensive electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using CAD software (e.g., EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Specify electrical components, including switchgear, motors, drives, sensors, and control systems.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements.
  • Conduct detailed electrical calculations, including load analysis, fault current calculations, and protection coordination studies.
  • Oversee the testing and commissioning of electrical systems, ensuring successful integration and operation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering, software development, and project management teams to ensure cohesive system design.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues encountered during design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, test procedures, user manuals, and bill of materials.
  • Mentor junior electrical engineers and provide technical guidance.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies in power electronics, control systems, and automation.
  • Manage design-related aspects of project schedules and budgets.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to the development of electrical design standards and best practices.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical system design, with a strong focus on power distribution and control systems.
  • Proven experience with electrical CAD software for schematic design.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant electrical standards and safety regulations (e.g., IEC, BS, NEC).
  • Experience with power system analysis tools and techniques.
  • Proficiency in specifying electrical components and control system hardware.
  • Strong understanding of PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation concepts is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple design tasks.
  • Chartered Engineer status or eligibility is an advantage.
