Our client, a prominent player in the manufacturing sector, is looking for an experienced Procurement Manager to join their established team in **Edinburgh**. This role is essential for developing and executing strategic sourcing initiatives, optimizing procurement processes, and fostering strong, mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers. The successful candidate will play a key role in reducing costs, ensuring supply chain resilience, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and ethical conduct. Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive procurement strategies to meet the company's needs for goods and services.
  • Lead the sourcing and selection process for new suppliers, including conducting RFPs/RFQs and contract negotiations.
  • Manage and nurture existing supplier relationships, conducting regular performance reviews and driving continuous improvement.
  • Analyse market trends, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement effective cost reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across departments (e.g., R&D, Operations, Finance) to understand their procurement requirements and ensure alignment.
  • Monitor supplier performance against key metrics (quality, delivery, cost, service) and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Develop and maintain a robust supplier risk management framework.
  • Oversee contract management, ensuring favourable terms and conditions are secured and adhered to.
  • Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, savings, and supplier performance for senior management.
  • Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, fostering their development and ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in procurement and supply chain management.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or CIPS qualification is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in procurement or strategic sourcing, with a proven track record in supplier management and negotiation.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading procurement functions and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of procurement best practices, market analysis, and cost modelling.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and procurement software.
  • Ability to analyse complex data sets and translate them into actionable insights.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
  • Experience within the manufacturing or industrial sector is a plus.

You will set the vision and lead a high-performing team to deliver a procurement and SRM (Supplier Relationship Management) strategy that underpins our Group’s wider goals. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be a trusted advisor to the Executive Team, shaping decisions that affect thousands of customers and communities.

With increasing regulatory requirements, rising expectations on Value for Money and the need to embed social and environmental responsibility into everything we do, this role will ensure procurement is not just a back-office function but a strategic enabler of growth, resilience, and impact.

This is your opportunity to shape the function and play a central role in delivering our Group’s mission.

 You’ll need to be in the office for a minimum of 2 days per week.

What you’ll need:

  • A professional qualification (e.g. MCIPS) and extensive senior procurement experience.
  • A proven track record of delivering strategic procurement outcomes in complex, large-scale organisations (public, housing, government bodies)
  • Deep knowledge of procurement regulations, frameworks, and best practice.
  • Experience managing complex, high-value procurement projects across multiple categories.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to influence at Board level and inspire diverse teams.
