For over 30 years, we’ve been creating incredible video games at our multiple studios, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.

We're looking for an experienced VFX Artist who is looking for their next exciting challenge to join a passionate and growing VFX team and work on an exciting new large-scale project, crafted by a seasoned team renowned for developing exceptional shooters.

The VFX team is responsible for all visual effects developed in Rebellion's games. Not only particle effects, but screen post effects, material effects, mesh destruction effects and UI effects, developed in Rebellion's proprietary engine “Asura”.

Responsibilities

  • Craft and design high-quality real-time particle effects that elevate the look and feel of the game.
  • Maintain strong artistic and technical standards, making refinements to ensure effects are both polished and performant.
  • Use available assets to immerse players in rich, atmospheric worlds that enhance the game’s narrative and experience.
  • Draw on game design documents to understand environments, objectives, storylines, and overall style, ensuring your effects support the project vision.

This exciting opportunity can be based out of any of our studios in Oxford or Warwick, offering flexibility, collaboration, and the chance to work with a world-class team! Requirements

  • An accomplished real-time VFX portfolio that demonstrates timing, clarity, and a strong artistic eye.
  • Professional experience, whether through studio roles, internships, or substantial personal projects such as game jams or mods, as well as familiarity with source control systems, will help you stand out.
  • Proficiency with industry tools such as Blender, Photoshop, Substance, and After Effects (or equivalent software).
  • A solid understanding of particle system fundamentals and texture creation workflows for games.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as Houdini and Embergen (or similar) for creating flipbook assets.
  • Knowledge of 2D particle texture techniques and how to apply them effectively in real-time effects.
  • The ability to take concept art, design goals, and references and transform them into polished, performant effects that enhance gameplay and storytelling.

As a VFX Artist at Wushu Studios, you will be responsible for creating stunning visual effects that enhance gameplay and immerse players in our worlds. Our client, a renowned studio celebrated for its groundbreaking visual effects in film and television, is seeking an exceptionally talented Senior VFX Artist. This role offers a dynamic hybrid work environment, blending creative collaboration in the studio with the flexibility of remote work. You will be responsible for creating stunning and complex visual effects that enhance storytelling and push the boundaries of cinematic possibility. We are looking for an artist with a strong artistic eye, technical prowess, and a proven ability to deliver high-quality results under pressure. Your expertise in various VFX disciplines, such as compositing, simulation, or 3D rendering, will be invaluable.

Responsibilities:
  • Create high-quality visual effects shots for film, television, or games.
  • Utilize industry-standard software (e.g., Nuke, Maya, Houdini, After Effects) to achieve desired visual outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with VFX Supervisors, Directors, and other artists to achieve the artistic vision.
  • Develop and implement complex simulations (e.g., fluids, particles, destruction).
  • Integrate 3D elements with live-action footage seamlessly.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges and optimize workflows for efficiency.
  • Manage assets and maintain organized project files.
  • Provide constructive feedback to team members and contribute to a collaborative environment.
  • Stay current with emerging VFX technologies, techniques, and industry trends.
  • Participate in creative reviews and contribute innovative ideas.
  • Ensure timely delivery of shots according to production schedules.

Qualifications:
  • Proven professional experience (5+ years) as a VFX Artist in a studio environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one core VFX discipline (e.g., Compositing, 3D Modeling, Animation, Simulation, Lighting, Rendering).
  • Proficiency in industry-standard VFX software suites.
  • A strong understanding of cinematic language, composition, and color theory.
  • Ability to interpret creative briefs and translate them into compelling visual elements.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a hybrid team.
  • Ability to work efficiently and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • A keen eye for detail and a passion for visual storytelling.
  • A strong demo reel showcasing a wide range of high-quality VFX work is essential.
