Chief of Staff to the Chief People Officer | HR Strategy, Transformation & Delivery
Location: London (2-3 days per week in office)
Salary: £120,000 – £150,000 + package (can be flexible for the right candidate)
Travel: Occasional international travel (Europe & US)
Middlemore is retained by a global, leading international investment group, to appoint a Chief of Staff to the Group Chief People Officer (CPO). This newly created, strategic position sits at the centre of a multi-year global transformation program across a portfolio of companies in the UK, Europe and North America.
This role is best described as a “strategic transformation-enabler” to the Group Chief People Officer. You will support them through project managing the various transformation workstreams on a multi-year change program, help them to prioritise their work, support on OD, and act as the conduit between other group functions.
Over the next 6–12 months, the role will also be responsible for establishing a dedicated HR Transformation PMO, expanding its reach and capability as the transformation programme progresses.
The Opportunity
The Chief of Staff will bring structure, focus, and executional discipline to a fast-paced organisation undergoing significant modernisation and growth. This individual will play a central role in translating strategy into delivery, ensuring alignment, governance, and measurable impact across all People & Culture initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership & Advisory
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CPO, providing challenge, insight, and perspective on key people and organisational priorities.
- Shape and prioritise the Group People Strategy, ensuring alignment with business and investment goals.
- Prepare the CPO for Board, ExCo, and investor discussions through high-quality materials, analysis, and recommendations.
- Partner with Finance and Strategy to align people priorities with wider business and financial planning.
Transformation Leadership
- Lead and oversee major HR transformation programmes, including Target Operating Model design, organisational development, leadership and culture initiatives, HR process optimisation, and M&A integration.
- Build and embed governance frameworks, toolkits, and progress dashboards to ensure delivery discipline.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams and third-party partners to ensure effective programme execution.
Operational Excellence & Enablement
- Provide operational and delivery support to the CPO, managing priorities, follow-ups, and stakeholder coordination.
- Develop and deliver Board-ready presentations, reports, and communications.
- Oversee third-party providers, ensuring alignment, quality, and value.
- Support the rhythm and governance of leadership meetings, offsites, and strategic reviews.
Required Background and Experience
- 10–15 years’ experience in HR transformation, strategy, or organisational development within complex, international environments.
- We would also be open to candidates with other functional backgrounds (outside of HR) such as Project Management, Business Analysts or Management Consultants.
- Proven success leading or enabling large-scale HR or business transformation.
- Strong understanding of HR operating models, organisational design, and change frameworks.
- Exceptional stakeholder management, influence, and communication skills, with experience engaging at C-suite level.
- Global mindset with experience across the UK, Europe, and the US.
- Background in financial services, FMCG, or PE-backed organisations advantageous.
- Pragmatic, collaborative, and commercially astute, with the ability to thrive in fast-moving, evolving environments.
- Excellent communications skills – including the ability to write and produce detailed presentations for Investment teams.
- Must be willing to get hands on (when required) in transactional/administrative aspects of work in order to support the Group Chief People Officer.
