ESSENTIALS

  • Proven ability to review SOC alerting in collaboration with SOC analysts to effectively triage and manage Tier 1 SOC alerts to the appropriate outcome.
  • Experience with LDAP, and application traffic flow root cause analysis.
  • Previous experience to identify root cause from (TBC for review – Demonstrable understanding of the OSI Reference Model and the network communication protocols, including but not limited to DNS, HTTP/S, SSL, SMTP, FTP/S, LDAP/S. Our client, a rapidly expanding telecommunications provider, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Security Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role, based in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK , will play a critical part in designing, implementing, and managing robust network security solutions to protect our infrastructure and customer data. You will be responsible for safeguarding our networks against evolving cyber threats, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining network security infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint security solutions.
  • Monitoring network traffic and security events for potential threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Conducting regular security assessments and penetration testing to identify weaknesses.
  • Developing and enforcing network security policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Responding to security incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing remediation plans.
  • Collaborating with IT and network operations teams to ensure security is integrated into all network designs and deployments.
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies.
  • Providing technical expertise and guidance on network security matters.
  • Managing security documentation, including network diagrams, policies, and incident reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant industry regulations and standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in network security engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with various security technologies such as Cisco ASA/Firepower, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Juniper.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols, and network infrastructure.
  • Experience with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, QRadar) and log analysis.
  • Knowledge of security best practices, threat landscape, and incident response methodologies.
  • Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, GIAC are highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere in the UK. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust network security solutions to protect the company's infrastructure and customer data against evolving cyber threats. This role is critical in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our network services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and manage network security infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and network access control (NAC).
  • Monitor network traffic for security threats and anomalies, responding to security incidents in a timely and effective manner.
