OVERVIEW & SCOPE OF ROLE
The MP&L Planner will be responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of materials and the effective scheduling of production to meet customer demand, minimise costs and maintaining optimal inventory levels. This role requires a balance of tactical material ordering and strategic production scheduling, ensuring availability of parts while maximising manufacturing efficiency.
The role is to plan, coordinate and expedite the parts and materials required to support production schedules, including the analysis of MRP planning outputs, confirming parts and materials schedules and expediting parts and materials from suppliers inclusive of all clearance activities with support from material technical authorities. Also to manage inventory levels, shelf life's, optimise material flow and maintain accurate system data to support efficient supply chain operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & REPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure parts and materials are available to support production plans in all areas of manufacturing but running and maintaining the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system.
- Convert demand and production plans into material purchase requirements.
- Raise and manage purchase orders with suppliers in line with lead times and inventory policies.
- Liaise closely with suppliers to track deliveries, resolve shortages & expedite where necessary and liaise with Procurement, Quality and other departments as required to resolve any supply issues.
- Develop, maintain and optimise production schedules to balance customer demand with resource capacity.
- Monitor production performance again the plan and adjust as required to maintain delivery commitments whilst coordinating with other teams to resolve issues affecting output.
- Maintain master data parameter accuracy in the MRP system to ensure parts and materials are scheduled to include time necessary for internal testing and quality assurance etc.
- Ensure that materials with a shelf life are maintained and available as required, co-ordinating re-lifing (via Material Technical Authorities) or purchase as required.
- Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages or excess inventory. Review slow-moving, excess and obsolete stock regularly and propose actions. Support new product launches and phase-outs, ensuring smooth transition of materials.
- Manage and report on non-conformance impacts to materials and production schedules
- Support cycle counting and annual stock takes as required and maintain data accuracy and integrity.
- Provide accurate and timely management reporting of KPIs.
- Continually seek improvements relative to inventory and supply, and make recommendations designed to reduce costs and improve methods.
- Ensure Health and Safety standards for all incoming materials are fully communicated and understood.

I’m working with the UK Logistics Centre for a global engine development powerhouse in Daventry to find a proactive Supply Chain Planner to cover a 12-month maternity contract. This is a hybrid role 3 days on-site, 2 days from home , working standard office hours (37.5 per week).
The Role:
You’ll be the go-to for supply chain operations across planning, logistics, customer and supplier returns, and inventory optimisation. It’s a pivotal support role within their Global Planning and Logistics function, liaising with key site teams, resolving escalations, and keeping operations flowing.
Day-to-day you'll be involved in:
- Material and production planning for aftermarket kitting
- Handling supplier & customer returns across EMEA
- Engaging with inbound ops and site logistics teams
