**A little more about your role.**
Due to strong and sustained growth in our Sustainable Water Management (SWM) business we are seeking experienced professionals to join our team of over 300 water science and engineering professionals to further strengthen our project delivery and technical capability in a wide range of water environment and EIA projects for our clients in the Highways and Energy Sectors.
The SWM business operates as a national team and work is shared around the team in a fair and transparent way, ensuring project allocation takes into account personal interests and development aspirations as much as is practicable. As a senior member of the team you would be actively involved in the continued growth, development and resourcing of the team.
We are looking for a proficient professional who has experience working with Highway Authorities and/or the energy generation & transmission sector. You will have a competent and detailed understanding of key legislation, policies and guidance such as the DMRB, the Water Framework Directive Regulations, Environmental Permitting Regulations, the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and the National Planning Policy Framework (in relation to the water environment). With preferred strengths in water quality, EIA and sustainable drainage you will ideally have familiarity with other water environment disciplines to aid delivery of more complex projects for a range of clients.
The appointment would be at Associate Director grade. We can be flexible on location within the UK and offer a true hybrid work arrangement.
You will contribute to a diverse range of projects but the main focus of your work is likely to be delivering and taking technical lead roles on water environment and water quality projects for Highway Authorities, working as their trusted advisor to develop policy and strategy and provide expert technical support. Other areas of work may include leading and coordinating water environment input (including flood risk, geomorphology, water quality and hydrogeology) to EIAs for highways and energy projects. Your work will be varied but will include technical, management and commercial responsibilities. Sharing your technical expertise and mentoring others in the team will also be an important part of your role.
Responsibilities will include:
+ Playing a leading role in project delivery, including managing the interface with clients and internal stakeholders. Supervising, coordinating and reviewing the inputs of others within the business to deliver high quality technical outputs that meet client requirements.
+ To manage or direct projects effectively, balancing programme, budget and quality requirements, and ensuring that the highest health and safety standards are adhered to.
+ Providing technical guidance, training and support to junior colleagues.
+ Provide technical expert support for clients in regard to the water environment, particularly water quality.
+ Engaging positively and professionally with clients in developing a trusted advisor role.
+ Leading business development activities and being responsible for the development of proposals to clients.
+ Support the development of our growth strategy in Sustainable Water Management
+ Develop solutions that address client issues, challenges, and needs in collaboration with project or team leaders.
+ Demonstrating positive H&S behaviours and championing this amongst the wider team.
+ Playing a key role in growing WSP's technical capability, knowledge and innovation base to develop new services for our clients.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
Skills / Experience
+ Experience working as a water environment technical advisor to Highways Authorities.
+ Demonstrable experience of leading or major contributor to technical inputs and teams for successful project delivery.
+ Excellent knowledge of the DMRB, Water Framework Directive Regulations, Environmental Permitting Regulations, the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and the National Planning Policy Framework (in relation to the water environment).
+ Experience in acting as expert witness in planning inquiries including the preparation of proofs of evidence.
+ Excellent knowledge and understanding of water environment EIA, water quality assessment and sustainable drainage systems

Qualifications

Working within our forward-thinking Groundwater & Distribution Service Reservoirs Treatment department, you have a fantastic opportunity to join us as a Water Treatment Scientist, you'll act as a key member of the Process team, providing day to day technical advice to host of ground water treatment works and distribution service reservoirs (DSR).

You'll be looking after process issues in your county of accountability and will also monitor process performance via reviews of trends, thus ensuring we continue to provide the right quality of water to our customers.

The role will be based both in the office and out on our operational sites at Severn Trent. As you'll be travelling between sites the role comes with a car allowance. Sound like you? Then read on.

As a Water Treatment Scientist, you'll be reviewing performance of our GW Treatment Works and DSR's, participating in water quality improvement initiatives, while identifying and supporting the delivery of operational efficiencies (chemical, energy).You'll have the opportunity to define the future of our water treatment works by working closely alongside the Process Design Engineers, helping to define new capital projects to further improve performance and reduce operational risk.

Whilst leading investigations into water quality issues and failures at works and DSR's, in order to identify the root cause, you'll look to identify the mitigating actions for all relevant stakeholders, and be responsible for producing key reports and recommendations.

A key aspect of the role is supporting the identification and reduction of water quality risks, by the completion of the water treatment element of Drinking Water Safety Plan (DWSP) audits, subsequent DWSP actions and identification of the capital and operational investment needs required to improve water quality performance.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone who has excellent technical knowledge on water treatment processes and issues and can bring solutions to life. Due to the nature of the role being that you are working with many different stakeholders, we will also look for you to have excellent communication and influencing skills, as you will be dealing with people both internally and externally to our business at different levels. This role sits in a busy and diverse team so your ability to prioritise, plan and deliver outputs to timescales which have been mutually agreed with be a key element which you will need to be able to do. As will the ability to understand both operational and customer issues.

A number of our tasks are computerised so having comprehensive IT skills (eg Word, Excel, SAP, Cognos, QUIS, ESCADA) will stand you in good stead along with the ability to interpret trends and make critical decisions. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Working within our forward-thinking Groundwater & Distribution Service Reservoirs Treatment department, you have a fantastic opportunity to join us as a Water Treatment Scientist, you'll act as a key member of the Process team, providing day to day technical advice to host of ground water treatment works and distribution service reservoirs (DSR).

You'll be looking after process issues in your county of accountability and will also monitor process performance via reviews of trends, thus ensuring we continue to provide the right quality of water to our customers.

The role will be based both in the office and out on our operational sites at Severn Trent. As you'll be travelling between sites the role comes with a car allowance. Sound like you? Then read on.

As a Water Treatment Scientist, you'll be reviewing performance of our GW Treatment Works and DSR's, participating in water quality improvement initiatives, while identifying and supporting the delivery of operational efficiencies (chemical, energy).You'll have the opportunity to define the future of our water treatment works by working closely alongside the Process Design Engineers, helping to define new capital projects to further improve performance and reduce operational risk.

Whilst leading investigations into water quality issues and failures at works and DSR's, in order to identify the root cause, you'll look to identify the mitigating actions for all relevant stakeholders, and be responsible for producing key reports and recommendations.

A key aspect of the role is supporting the identification and reduction of water quality risks, by the completion of the water treatment element of Drinking Water Safety Plan (DWSP) audits, subsequent DWSP actions and identification of the capital and operational investment needs required to improve water quality performance.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone who has excellent technical knowledge on water treatment processes and issues and can bring solutions to life. Due to the nature of the role being that you are working with many different stakeholders, we will also look for you to have excellent communication and influencing skills, as you will be dealing with people both internally and externally to our business at different levels. This role sits in a busy and diverse team so your ability to prioritise, plan and deliver outputs to timescales which have been mutually agreed with be a key element which you will need to be able to do. As will the ability to understand both operational and customer issues.

A number of our tasks are computerised so having comprehensive IT skills (eg Word, Excel, SAP, Cognos, QUIS, ESCADA) will stand you in good stead along with the ability to interpret trends and make critical decisions. If you have the ability to demonstrate recent experience of commissioning, plant optimisation and providing process support this will help you.
