The Role

We are looking for a Welding Engineer to join our engineering team in Salford. This is a key role in supporting the delivery of high-integrity welded components and ensuring our welding processes meet the highest technical and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and maintain welding procedures and specifications.
• Support weld qualification and testing activities.
• Provide technical support to production, fabrication, and inspection teams.
• Ensure compliance with international welding standards and project requirements.
• Prepare and review quality documentation, including ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans).
• Collaborate with quality and inspection teams to maintain standards across projects.
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation in welding and fabrication processes.

Requirements

Essential

• IWT (International Welding Technologist) qualification (minimum).

Desirable

• IWE (International Welding Engineer) or MSc in Welding Engineering.
• Experience working with pressure vessels or pressure systems.
• Knowledge of high-performance alloys (e.g. nickel alloys, duplex stainless steels, titanium).
• Understanding of quality management systems and/or possession of a quality-related qualification (bonus).

FINTEC recruit is seeking an experienced Welding Engineer for our engineering oil and gas client based in Highland region, north of Inverness.  

This is a permanent role, salary negotiable by experience plus benefits. There will be some travel overseas with this role for projects, enhanced rates are paid when on project assignments overseas.

Annual Salary has expectations of up to circa £90,000, depending on experience,  made up of base salary & overseas project day rates.

Responsibilities:

• Control of all documentation associated with weld procedure specifications, qualifications, records and welder qualifications
li>Review welding specifications at bid stages and perform welding inspection duties on an ad hoc basis
• Review and endorse welding consumable Test Certification and review Weld Procedure qualification documentation – welding manuals
< i>Ensuring company  management procedures are carried out. li>Continual reviews of welding techniques/procedures and the introduction of improvements to operations
• Management Project welding procedure qualification activities  and maintain weld procedure registers 
< i>Monitor production welding activities and trouble shoot any potential issues
• Evaluate causes of welding failures and implement corrective actions
• Attend regular operations and safety meetings as required.
• Ensure that the appropriate Risk Assessments are carried out for the preparation of specific Welding Processes/Method Statements for welding operations

Skills and Experience required for the Welding Engineer vacancy   

HNC in Fabrication, Welding and Inspection or equivalent as a minimum
• Knowledge of Automatic and/or Manual welding of pipeline, welding engineering or metallurgical experience/background 
li>Minimum 5 years’ experience in welding engineering in a fabrication environment  Working knowledge of various NDE techniques
• Keep abreast of the latest developments in welding engineering

• Conduct customer visits to promote and sell our products.
• Support the design, assembly, and testing of automated welding machines at our manufacturing facility.
• Assist in managing parts inventory and ensure smooth operations within the workshop.
• Serve as a technical advisor and hands-on engineer in both customer and manufacturing environments.

Qualifications:

• Solid experience in welding processes and welding equipment maintenance.
• Background in manufacturing, with knowledge of managing parts and inventory systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and general computer literacy.
• A strong customer-first mindset with excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Culturally aware and able to adapt to working in different countries and environments.
