This key individual will join their Engineering Team to design RF Circuits and Systems. Teledyne design and build leading edge RF technology from simple amplitude measurement and LNAs through to complete systems ranging from 500MHz to 40GHz. You will be responsible for the design of custom RF components and systems as part of a multi-disciplinary team from concept through to production transfer. You will also drive research into new enabling technologies for the Teledyne Microwave UK Roadmap which you will help to shape.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
+ Perform detailed design and development of many types of RF Components, Systems and Multi-function Assemblies. This may include;
+ Systems
+ Converters
+ Transceivers
+ Frequency measurement systems
+ VCOs and synthesizers
+ Detector Log Video Amplifiers
+ Limiters and Switches
+ Low Noise Amplifiers
+ Technical input to other disciplines to enable the complete project.
+ Work with Sales & Marketing to support customer visits and provide product expertise.
+ Undertake technical definition & detailed planning of specific product development projects in conjunction with the Project team throughout the project lifecycle.
+ Ensure that the product requirement is completely captured and planned as a series of engineering tasks.
+ Be responsible for the achievement of the requirements, including cost objectives, of each product development project as detailed within the Customer order documents.
+ Maintain visibility of the design approach and ensure, through review, that the implemented design will meet the product requirement.
+ To facilitate and encourage appropriate technical discussion and broad communication of new ideas.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
+ An accomplished Electronics Design Engineer with a strong background in physics, mathematics or similar, ideally with a solid understanding of RF circuit design.
+ Understanding of mechanical design achieved through development work and transferring products to production stage.
+ Experience of working on and leading engineering projects.
+ Familiarity with RF design techniques and tools such as the 3D EM simulation software CST or HFSS etc.
+ Experience with other higher frequency electronic circuit design tools, Microwave Office, ADS.
+ Knowledge of good engineering processes and practices.
+ Good communication skills - able to understand and report tasks, risks, etc.
+ Presentation skills - able to prepare professional technical reports and presentations to customers, suppliers and within Teledyne.

The Senior RF Engineer plays a key role in the design, development, and delivery of high-performance RF and mmWave products and solutions. This role involves advanced technical expertise in RF/microwave engineering, hands-on design and test, problem-solving, and close collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution. 

The Senior RF Engineer is responsible for delivering robust RF designs , supporting technology development, maintaining high engineering standards, and contributing to the company’s product roadmap. 

Requirements

Technical: 

  • Lead the design, simulation, and development of RF and mmWave circuits, components, and subsystems 
  • Conduct RF system analysis, performance optimisation, and troubleshooting of complex designs
  • Carry out RF measurements, characterisation, and validation of prototypes and production hardware 
  • Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design reports, test plans, and results 
  • Ensure designs meet required specifications, standards, and customer requirements 
  • Contribute to technology and product roadmaps with innovative RF design solutions 
  • Support RFQs, proposals, and customer engagements with technical input where required 

Project & Product Management: 

  • Work with project managers and engineering leads to deliver designs on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards 
  • Support the transition of designs from concept through prototyping into volume manufacturing 
  • Collaborate with process engineering and operations to ensure manufacturability and yield of RF products 
  • Assist in risk identification and mitigation during the design and development process 

Collaboration & Communication: 

  • Work closely with electronics, mechanical, software, and systems engineers to deliver integrated solutions 
  • Provide technical expertise and support to internal and external stakeholders, including customers 
  • Present technical work and project updates to peers, management, and customers as required

The Principal RF/mmWave Engineer will lead the design, development, and testing of advanced RF systems and submodules. In this role, you will act as a technical authority, driving high-performance RF solutions across a range of projects, from concept to production. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define architecture, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure RF systems meet demanding performance, compliance, and reliability standards to ensure successful project execution.

The Principal RF Engineer is responsible for delivering robust RF designs, supporting technology development, maintaining high engineering standards, and contributing to the company’s product roadmap.

Role Responsibilities:

Technical :

    • Lead the design, simulation, and development of RF and mmWave circuits, components, subsystems and systems from DC to V-Band and beyond.
    • Conduct RF system analysis, performance optimisation, and troubleshooting of complex designs.
    • Conduct simulation and modelling of RF circuits using tools like ADS, CST, MWO or similar
    • Carry out RF measurements, characterisation, and validation of prototypes and production hardware.
    • Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design reports, test plans, and results.
    • Ensure designs meet required specifications, standards, and customer requirements.
    • Contribute to technology and product roadmaps with innovative RF design solutions.
    • Support RFQs, proposals, and customer engagements with technical input where required.

Project & Product Management:

    • Work with project managers and engineering leads to deliver designs on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards.
    • Support the transition of designs from concept through prototyping into volume manufacturing.
    • Collaborate with process engineering and operations to ensure manufacturability and yield of RF products.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Communications/Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Significant hands-on experience in RF and/or mmWave design, simulation, and test.
  • Strong knowledge of RF CAD tools (e.g., ADS, AWR, CST, or similar).
  • Proven track record in RF circuit and subsystem development (LNAs, PAs, filters, mixers, oscillators, etc.).
  • Experience in RF measurement techniques and use of VNAs, spectrum/network analysers, and test automation.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in high-frequency design (Ku, Ka, Q, V and E-band).
  • Familiarity with volume manufacturing processes and DFM/DFT.
  • Experience working to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
