Wood Machinist Role & Responsibilities
Machine Operation
- Operate and set up machines like spindle moulders, dimension saws, overhand planers, and thicknessers to shape and finish timber accurately.
- Adjust machines to required settings, ensuring precision in cuts and profiles.
- Tool Preparation and Maintenance - Sharpen, replace, and maintain cutting tools such as blades and cutters.
- Ensure tools and machines are clean, safe, and in working order.
- Select and prepare the correct type and size of wood or board materials for machining based on project specifications.
- Study detailed drawings, templates, and production specifications to understand dimensions and required finishes.
- Create complex shapes and joints, including rebates, grooves, and mouldings, while maintaining high precision and quality.
- Inspect finished products for defects, ensuring dimensions and finishes meet client specifications.
- Perform adjustments to maintain consistency throughout production.
- Identify and resolve issues like incorrect cuts or machine malfunctions quickly to minimise waste and downtime.
- Work alongside other machinists, designers, and production staff to meet project deadlines & communicate effectively about progress or challenges.

Role Overview:
You will be responsible for the precise machining of timber components, ensuring all work meets technical specifications and quality standards. You’ll play a key role in the production process, working closely with colleagues across the workshop and production teams.
Key Duties:
- Operate a variety of traditional woodworking machines including planers, moulders, tenoners, and saws

Berry Recruitment are currently working alongside a busy manufacturing client to recruit for a Wood Machinist- a brand new exciting opportunity based in King's Lynn.
Duties will include:
- Role involves setting and running machinery
- Understanding of timber grades and profiles
- Must be confident to work both independently and in a team
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to all health and safety regulations and rules
- Good numeracy and accuracy skills
Previous experience would be advantageous however previous experience working within a yard environment or manufacturing/production would be required.
Previous experience with using Weinig Powercom software would be desirable.
Working hours are 46 hours per week, working 6am-6pm, with a rotating day off.
Salary will be dependent on experience, between 27,500-29,500 per year.
