HGV Workshop Supervisor Requirements:
You will be looking after a busy and professional department where your remit will be to manage all aspects of the department: From day to day running of the Workshop, managing the Technicians / Mechanics to achieve maximum productivity,whilst working a 50/50 role & being on the tools yourself .
You will also be working closely with the senior management to ensure that key objectives and strategies are met, we are looking for someone who is constantly looking to improve the department and to exceed targets.
You will be an individual who prides themselves on customer service, works well with the staff to get the best out of the department and someone who will make the department their own. This is a busy department with a strong reputation within the area.
A proven and solidHGVbackground is essential as we need the individual to be of the highest calibre.
HGV/Commercial experience is essential. At least 3 years
Relevant systems experience such as Kerridge, Pinnacle and 1 Link would also be advantageous

Responsibilities and duties of the Workshop Supervisor role:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Supervise and manage workshop staff, including machinists, fabricators, semi-skilled workers, and field service personnel.
- Uphold high HSE and quality standards, ensuring correct materials, finishes, dimensions, and QA approvals before delivery.
- Implement quality assurance procedures, corrective actions, and continuous improvements.
- Maintain and repair machinery, ensuring preventative maintenance and safe operational standards.
- Oversee material deliveries, storage, and stock control, ensuring CRM references and accurate records.
- Manage workflow with planners, draughtsmen, and sales teams to meet schedules, due dates, and customer requirements.
- Lead daily 8:00 meetings, toolbox talks, and effective communication of workshop priorities to the team.
- Ensure tooling availability, maintenance, and compliance with six-monthly electrical testing.
- Monitor and control scheduled work to meet allocated hours and deadlines.
- Oversee annual building and facility services (e.g., roller doors, electrical testing, calibration, emergency lighting, fire safety, legionella compliance).
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
- Ideally apprenticeship trained in a relevant engineering field
- SSSTS or similar
- CIPD qualifications
Personal skills
The Workshop Supervisor role would suit someone who has:
- At least three years supervisory experience in a similar environment
- Strong man-management and leadership skills
- Able to read & interpret technical drawings

Reports To: Workshop Manager
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Electrical Department Manager, the Workshop Supervisor will assist in the running of the Electrical Services Workshop and will ensure that the highest level of quality is achieved with all jobs done by operatives in line with the Company’s commitment to ensuring best practice engineering.
Key Accountabilities
1.Supervise and provide technical support to workshop operatives;
2.Ensure that the correct workshop procedures are being carried out on shop floor;
3. Allocate jobs to operatives and monitor progress including job times in line with quotation, work with the Purchasing Clerk to ensure jobs are progressed when parts are received.
4. Monitor and inspect all jobs in progress at key stages and prior to delivery; ensure all findings are adequately recorded.
5. Ensure ordering materials and job bookings are passed to appropriate Clerk.
6. Ensure all training records for operatives are maintained.
7. Deputise for Workshop Manager when required and take responsibility for all workshop
activity;
8. Take part in Saturday morning supervision rota.
9. Health & Safety: Ensure that PPE has been issued and that staff are using it correctly;
10. Health & Safety: Ensure that the workshop is kept clean and tidy at all times;
11. Health& Safety: Ensure that all equipment is kept in good working order.
12. Equipment: Ensure that the calibration of measuring equipment is current.
13. Admin: Customer/supplier correspondence, job photo upload, reports and costing where required, including the booking in of jobs.
14. Site: attend site to cost/assess or carry out site work as deemed fit by workshop workload.
15. Call out – join the call out team handling call outs of hours.
16. Take calls out of hours to support emergency service activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
The Electrical Shop Supervisor should be a time served fitter and must have worked across a range of motors including AC & DC machines.
Essential
Sound knowledge of engineering, knowledge of working in an electric motor workshop environment, familiarity with workshop equipment.
Desirable
The Workshop Supervisor will supervise the operatives in the Electrical Workshop.
