Your Team

The supply system engineering team are responsible for the clean water supply and demand balance across the region. They will manage the water strategic storage, planned and unplanned events on the network to ensure that customer supply is not compromised. They are also heavily involved in incident support, both at a control room, production, networks and wider business perspective during periods of escalation.

Your Role

As a Graduate – Water Engineer, you will:

  • Manage the Water Supply Systems in your area to deliver current and future performance requirements.
  • Use Technical Expertise to plan and manage the operation of the water supply system to deliver out performance through the optimal plan (i.e. cheapest water production)
  • Ensure that robust financial management and commercial awareness form the foundation of all business decisions and also act as a company expert for the development of Water Supply System Strategy.
  • Analyse regional demand to identify local and regional anomalies to help target leakage activities.
  • Ensure outage, headroom, production and transmission constraints are visible and understood within Central Control.
What you’ll need to be successful
  • Educated to relevant degree level – Engineering degree (e.g. Civils, Hydraulics, Water or Geography)
  • Knowledge of water & hydraulics
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with excellent organisational and planning skills
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle

GAP Pump Services provide advice, servicing, maintenance and repair for water treatment, dewatering and sewerage pump applications including a large range of hoses, settlement tanks and water processing solutions.

As a Water Treatment Installation Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the success of the region by ensuring that our customers can hire what they want, when they need it through the efficient servicing and maintaining a variety of water treatment equipment within the GAP fleet.

Your Team

Our Wastewater function provides an essential operational environmental service to 5.4million domestic customers and 2.5 thousand business across the Yorkshire region. We take away 1billion litres per day of wastewater through just over 52,000km of sewer and thousands of pumping stations to one of our 640 Wastewater Treatment Works, where it is treated to safe standards before being released back to the environment. We also use the treated sludge from wastewater to generate renewable energy and create quality biosolids products for agriculture.

We are looking to recruit a number of Operational Leadership and Technical Specialist Graduates in the Wastewater function.

Your Role:

As a Wastewater Graduate you will:

  • Have a number of tailored placements working as part of our various wastewater teams to develop a foundation of skills and knowledge to understand our operational wastewater processes, customer journey and the important work that our 980 strong team deliver. This could include:
  • Working alongside our Operational Field Managers, Technical Optimisers and maintenance teams to deliver 24/7 quality and compliant treatment services.
  • Working with our Customer Field Services team to proactively manage our sewer network assets and resolve customer problems.
  • Gain experience with our Asset Management function delivering our capital programme; technical asset planning activities and strategic planning for the future.
  • Deliver outputs in our River Health team supporting and understanding our wastewater environmental performance requirements, regulatory reporting and relationship with the Environment Agency; or engaging with community groups and external bodies to deliver our strategic objectives.

Deliver operational excellence projects to drive continuous improvement in performance

You will help influence your development programme and experience to be structured towards achieving your personal career goals and the business's needs, but at the core it will be designed to develop your wastewater business and process knowledge, technical understanding, personal and people leadership skills, strategic thinking and delivery of excellent environmental performance. The ultimate goal is to equip you for an exciting career as a future Operational Leader or Technical Specialist in wastewater service delivery.

The role of a Graduate Water Quality Scientist is a vital one as you will help ensure that water quality targets and standards relating to specific legislation are met. This will ensure that we provide our customers with a wholesome water supply that everyone can enjoy.

As a Graduate Water Quality Scientist you will:

  • You will help optimise assets, systems, processes, and procedures in line with continuous improvement in water quality performance and protection of public health at all times both (water distribution and production sites). You will work towards minimising water quality related contacts and to help deliver our vision of taking responsibility for the water environment for good.
  • You will support a co-ordinated, planned and effective response to incidents across the business, and to ensure that processes, procedures are followed and agreed actions or requirements are implemented.
  • You will help prepare reports for submission to our regulator/Senior Managers and investigatory reports and review of exception reports provided by the team of scientists.

Contracts Manager - Water Sector - South Yorkshire

The Contracts Manager will oversee multiple projects, ensuring financial performance, programme delivery, and full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards. You'll manage teams, budgets, and client relationships to ensure successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and programme projects to meet delivery deadlines.
  • Oversee procurement and cost control to maximise project value.
  • Ensure commercial and contractual compliance across all projects.
  • Manage risk registers, CVRs, and monthly financial forecasts.
  • Lead progress reviews, client meetings, and reporting cycles.
  • Maintain high HSEQ standards through leadership, training, and audits.
  • Ensure QA documentation and ITPs are produced and maintained.
  • Build strong client relationships and ensure customer satisfaction.
Performance Measures
  • Projects delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Accurate monthly/weekly reporting and KPI achievement.
  • Final accounts completed within 3 months of completion.
Requirements Essential
  • Extensive experience managing civil/water sector projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts, CDM, design, risk, and cost management.
  • Skilled in MS Project (Primavera P6 desirable).
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • SMSTS and CSCS certification.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
Desirable
  • CEng MICE or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
