About the Role

This pivotal role is designed to support teachers and mentor other teaching assistants, ensuring the highest standards of care, learning, and development for our pupils. You will play a key role in guiding new staff through comprehensive induction and training, creating ongoing professional development plans, and leading by example in behaviour management and positive interventions.

You will contribute to lesson planning and preparation, create engaging learning resources, and provide both in-class and out-of-class support tailored to the needs of our autistic pupils. Under the teacher’s direction, you may also deliver lessons and cover teacher absences when required.

A core focus of this role is to uphold the school’s commitment to the learning, well-being, and safeguarding of all young people, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of pupil progress and outcomes across the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor, train, and guide teaching assistants to develop their skills and confidence

About Us

Ryecroft School is an independent day school in Walsall, providing specialist education for autistic children and young people aged 4–18 years.

We focus on meeting the unique learning needs of autistic pupils, including those with additional challenges such as learning disabilities and behaviours that may present as a result of their diagnoses. Our new school, which opened in September 2024, has a capacity for 60 pupils and is designed to support learners with autism and complex needs in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.

At Targeted Provision our mission is to raise the standard of educational support offered to vulnerable young people in the UK. We keep the team around the child, and you will be supported throughout every placement by our team of SEN / SEND Support Specialists.

The SEN / SEND Tutor role:
  • This role will involve providing Maths, English, or Science tuition to young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD / SLD), or other Additional Educational Needs referred to Targeted Provision
  • These young people are referred to us by local authorities and schools and will require some level of support in their educational and social-emotional journey
  • If selected, your role will be to provide this support via flexible and holistic trauma-informed tutoring and mentoring
SEN / SEND Tutor tasks and responsibilities:
  • Planning each session of teaching / tutoring / mentoring
  • Providing the young person with holistic and engaging sessions which meet their needs and advance their educational and social-emotional journey
  • Completing lesson reports and providing feedback on the young person's progress
SEN / SEND Tutor requirements:
  • Professional Teaching Qualifications (Qualified Teacher Status / QTS / QTLS)
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience
  • Experience working with young people with SEND, SEMH, MLD, SLD, and / or other Additional Educational Needs
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of safeguarding processes
  • Enhanced DBS (we can help obtain this at cost if needed)
  • Two professional references
  • You must be based in the UK with the right to work in the UK, even for remote / online assignments

It is a strict requirement that you have the ability to work in a way that promotes the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people and follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.

SEN / SEND Tutor employment status:
  • This position involves engaging with us as a Worker, to provide short-term engagements as and when they arise
  • You will work through a contract for service and will be paid via PAYE
  • We do not offer any set amount of work nor expenses coverage
  • Our insurance covers the work you do for us
  • This is not a self-employed tutoring / self-employed teaching position

What You Can Expect:

  • Actively work with the Regional Sales Manager and help develop, achieve and maintain regional business growth and market share. 
  • Work directly with laboratories, pathologists, and cytotechnologists to ensure the seamless implementation and optimal use of Hologic’s technologies in both cytology and pathology workflows.
  • Deliver on-site and remote training, support system integrations, and troubleshoot technical or application-related issues.
  • Ensure that our customers can maximize efficiency, accuracy, and diagnostic performance while adhering to laboratory best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with workflow optimization, conduct user training on Hologic’s diagnostic systems, and serve as a liaison between customers and internal teams such as product development, engineering, and customer support.

What We Expect:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, preferably Pathology and/or Cytology.
  • Strong level of NHS working experience, ideally both NGYN and GYN cytology and/or morphology.
  • Understanding of the IVD industry, the landscape of the NHS and National Screening programme, including regulatory requirements, trends projection, laboratory operating principles and processes including LEAN, customer segments, buying patterns, and decision-making processes.
  • Able to present to senior customer stakeholders (management, clinician, finance, procurement and commissioning).
  • Understands NHS, NSC, NHSSCP structures and key drivers.
  • Builds and leverages relationships at all levels and networks both internally and externally to achieve desired results.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (60 - 70%).
