About The Business Division
The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland's water and wastewater challenges. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of our rivers and coastal environments. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design. Overview Of The Role
Mott MacDonald is the market leader in the UK water sector, being a key supplier to major water companies and delivering a wide variety of engineering and advisory projects in support to the challenges faced by the sector. AMP8 will see a significant increase in investment. We have now secured new AMP8 consultancy frameworks adding to our existing framework commitments, and are reinforcing our excellent technical teams in response to that with key leadership roles. We are seeking Associate Civil Engineers specialised in pipelines to lead our technical teams in the south and southwest. This a fantastic professional opportunity for driven individuals, with a strong UK water and wastewater infrastructure experience, and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams of technical specialists in response to AMP8 challenges.
Key Responsibilities And Duties Include
- Provide technical leadership across our programmes of potable water and wastewater pipelines
- Direct, develop and supervise a team of design staff, providing technical and commercial guidance to support their development and to respond to the needs of the programme
- Lead the delivery of wastewater and/or potable water pipeline programmes to budget, programme and quality standards, working collaboratively across disciplines to efficient delivery
- Produce and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and reports, proactively managing design risk to deliver constructable solutions
- Deliver projects in close partnership with clients and contractors
- Represent the company in meetings, building strong relationships with our clients that will enhance our reputation and help secure further work
- Contribute to commercial success through forecasting and risk management, and the production of bids and proposals
Candidate specification
Essential
- Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institution
- Proven ability to lead a portfolio of technical projects, ensuring compliance with relevant quality assurance and technical standards and supporting the development of less experienced staff
- Demonstrable technical experience in clean / potable water pipeline design and pumping stations and/or wastewater network and associated infrastructure design
- Strong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multi-disciplinary teams with other technical disciplines including environmental specialists, geotechnical, structural, electrical and mechanical engineers
- A drive to be abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions
- Good understanding of designers’ responsibilities under CDM
- Able to travel to other offices and sites, as required
- Track record in building teams and capability of junior staff
- Experience in preparing successfully bids and in undertaking client engagement
- Project Management experience is not essential but previous experience or a desire to develop these skills would be beneficial

WSP are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Principal Engineer to join the Roads team based in Birmingham.
You will be leading day to day technical delivery of highway consultancy services to support our clients through all stages of the project life-cycle from feasibility and concept design through to planning, detailed design, and construction. This role will be client facing and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of delivery of schemes in either the local or national transport arena. The role will involve:
+ Managing projects to ensure coordination and compatibility of multi-disciplinary inputs on projects of varying scale, complexity and value.
+ Liaising with our clients, developing strong trusted relationships, proactively managing their expectations and comprehensively advising them.
+ Undertake project technical lead and reviewer roles
+ Using your technical ability and experience to support others to maximise their personal contribution to project/team goals.
+ Prepare fee proposals and manage budgets for individual projects.
+ Be responsible for the development and delivery of discrete and overall project solutions.
+ Lead and manage other staff members in the delivery of design drawings, standard construction details, specifications and bill of quantities, supporting the preparation of tender packages.
+ Responsible for compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and inhouse quality assurance standards/processes.
+ Be actively involved with team resource coordination, supporting the setup of teams and pitting the right people in the right roles.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ Relevant knowledge and experience of highway design and/or drainage systems at various stages of the project life cycle. Specific experience in the following areas is advantageous: road geometry, roundabouts, at-grade and grade separated junctions, inclusive active travel, highway drainage systems, road restraint systems, traffic sign and road marking design.
+ Demonstratable experience in leading a single or multiple design disciplines of in relevant projects (i.e. road, public transport, active travel, public real and/or private development).
+ Experience of contract document preparation or contract administration/site supervision using Public Works Contracts
+ The ability to use, direct and check the design outputs created in relevant softwares including but not limited to Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage and/or PDS.
+ Proactively manages change on tasks/projects, clearly communicating potential impacts on programme, cost, and quality.
+ Good communication, client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills are essential.
+ Chartered Civil Engineer or an Incorporated Engineer with extensive post professional qualification experience
+ A thorough understanding and application of the relevant design codes such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, Local Authority design guidance and are well versed in the preparation of drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals including the application of departures from standard.
+ Experience of complying with Designers Duties under CDM regulations.

The Development Team is a well-established and high performing discipline within the Planning and Development business unit which includes over 800 colleagues focused on project delivery through the whole project life cycle, from initial land acquisition, planning support and design, through to scheme implementation.

We help our clients to promote, implement and manage sustainable development, from pre-feasibility through to planning consent; establish plans and provision for how an area, its accessibility and needs, will develop over time and guide sustainable future development; and develop multi-disciplinary design from concept through to detailed design and construction.
We work with public/private sector land promoters and house builders, developers, signature architects, Government, and local authorities. Some of the multi-disciplinary services we provide that you will help deliver include:
+ Drainage, flood risk and SuDS.
+ Civil engineering, highways design and earthworks strategies.
+ Utilities, energy planning and coordination.
+ Site appraisal, due diligence, and strategic planning advice.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ Knowledge of and experience in highway design, drainage strategies and technical design, flood risk assessments and management, utility design and planning as well as a working knowledge of the development sector.
+ Design experience; focused on the development sector (drainage, flood risk, highways, earthworks and utilities).
+ An awareness of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics and building structures is desirable as well as an understanding of construction design stages and procedures.
+ The ability to produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations and construction drawings.
+ Knowledge of the relevant design codes such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, Local Authority Design Guidance, SuDS Manual and are well versed in the preparation of drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals.
+ Aware of current and emerging technical and planning guidance on climate change and sustainability.
+ The ability to use or direct and check the use of relevant software including Micro Drainage, Info Drainage, Civils 3D and/or PDS.
+ Experience of liaison with clients, co-professionals and design teams, and competence in liaising with highway, water, statutory and local authorities to negotiate the necessary outline and detailed technical approvals and statutory agreements typically relating to development projects.
+ Knowledge of the relevant legal processes, planning, design, design software, technical consents process, adoption and contract procedures for the provision of sewers, SuDS, highways and utilities to new developments and regeneration projects and how if, applied effectively, these skills combine to add value to a client's development proposal.
+ Knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects.
+ Postgraduate (or equivalent) experience and are at least nearing Chartership or have equivalent commercial experience and responsibility.
+ Willing to become an ICE Supervising or Delegated Civil Engineer (SCE / DE) to assist with training and development of junior members of the team.

We are expanding our team and are looking for a Senior or Principal Engineer (dependent on experience) for our Birmingham, Manchester and Wrexham office.
You will be pivotal in driving the delivery of civil and bridge engineering projects and will use your knowledge and skills to deliver the right quality to time and budget. You will use those attributes to mentor and support junior team members.
**In this role your responsibilities will include:**
+ Lead and review Bridge design,
+ Lead and review Bridge strengthening and repair, inspections and assessments,
+ General civil and structural engineering support to other teams,
+ Feasibility studies and options appraisals,
+ Preparation/review of specifications, reports and health and safety risk assessments,
+ Preparation/review of CDM Documentation e.g. Pre-Construction Information Pack,

**Qualifications**
+ Professional qualification and membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers (CEng MICE or MIStructE),

The team is busy with bridge and civil engineering work for a variety of clients, including National Highways, Network Rail, D&B Contractors and local authorities. **A little more about your role.**
We are seeking an Associate to be based out of our Manchester office who can:
+ Support our Regional lead for the North, along with the wider Liveable Places team and WSP with leadership & business development
+ Work directly with our clients to achieve their sustainable transport needs
+ Act as Project Manager on a wide range of projects whilst helping to grow and develop our work with clients
+ Stay informed about industry trends and best practice
+ Oversee projects budget and financial performance
+ Undertake technical preparation, review and checking of deliverables within the team
+ Work collaboratively with the Liveable Places team and our colleagues in the wider Mobility team and the wider WSP business to achieve our aims and objectives
**YOUR TEAM**
Liveable Places work with a wide range of local authority & private clients from across the UK to help them achieve their place making ambitions. We deliver a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery that include public realm, active travel, traffic engineering, road safety, parking, traffic signals and pedestrian / traffic modelling. We have had recent key successes with TfGM, Bury Council, Tees Valley Combined Authority, Leeds City Council, City of York Council, Liverpool City Council, North Tyneside Council, Westmorland and Furness Council, West of England Combined Authorities, National Highways and many, many more.
The Liveable Places team are based in offices across the country with over 200 staff, currently making up the team with further growth planned. We have a strong track record working closely with our clients and this role provides a great opportunity to have a pivotal role within Liveable Places and help support and steer its growth going forward.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ A civil engineering degree, transport planning degree or equivalent
+ Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (desirable)
+ Knowledge of current transport policy and standards
+ A proven ability to support with winning public sector work and can support our growing offer in Greater Manchester and Liverpool City Region
+ Proven ability to lead and manage project teams and individuals
+ Proven track record in project management and financial control
+ Passion for mentoring and developing talent
+ Transport, road safety, parking and traffic engineering experience
+ Good spoken and written communication skills. With the ability to liaise with others including public sector officials, members of the public and other senior colleagues
