We’re looking for a technically strong Engineering Manager to lead a team of around 50 fire engineers across projects, service, and maintenance. You’ll be the go-to escalation point , ensuring technical excellence, smooth delivery, and high standards across all operations.
If you’re a hands-on leader with a background in fire detection systems and a passion for developing people, this role offers the chance to shape the future of our engineering team.
 
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, support, and develop engineers across installation, commissioning, service, and maintenance.
- Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex issues.
- Oversee performance, safety, and compliance with BS 5839 and industry standards.
- Drive training, mentoring, and apprenticeship development.
- Plan resources effectively to meet project and service targets.
- Champion technical excellence, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
 
About You:
- Experienced leader with a fire systems engineering background.
- Strong knowledge of leading fire alarm systems (Gent, Hochiki, Advanced, Kentec, etc.).
- Confident fault-finder and problem-solver.
- Proven experience managing large engineering teams.
- FIA-trained or equivalent qualifications preferred.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
The Project Manager acts across all areas of the factory site, managing both new installations and enhancements to existing equipment. The role will lead as well as participate in multi-disciplinary teams.
The Project Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the projects, from technical specification, FAT, training, budgeting and contractor management through to project handover and will use project management tools and documents such as URS, Gantt Charts, and RACI.
The Project Manager is an all-encompassing role, including project engineering as well as project management. Whilst no need for formal qualification of practical skill sets, the post holder will certainly need a practical aptitude. It will require someone that is as happy in the factory environment as they are in the office. A collaborative approach is essential alongside a can-do attitude with no element of the project management process being outside of the post-holder's remit.
Your main focus :
+ Use technical skills and business acumen, participate in defining the scope, benefits, objectives, design, cost estimate, schedule and business case for engineering projects across all technical areas of the local business. Deliver the projects to completion.
+ Effectively translate stakeholders' and Project Team members' requirements to deliver projects through their full life cycle, ensuring targets are met
+ Take responsibility for the day-to-day preparation, management and deliverable completion of the engineering aspects of the project.
+ Ensure that design, fabrication and installation complies with the relevant Coty Design Guides, local engineering practices and project deliverables through robust concept and detailed design activities & reviews.
+ Apply change management processes and establish validation success criteria. Where validation is required, prepare a detailed programme and protocols, lead the execution of the validation exercises, prepare snagging lists and meet acceptance requirements for handover plans

**YOU ARE A COTY FIT**

+ Must be qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline or equivalent in experience.
+ Must have project engineering and project management experience in an engineering capacity.
+ Must have excellent PC skills which should include CAD.
+ Must be tenacious, methodical, reliable, pragmatic, action oriented and value experience whilst simultaneously embracing change.

Underwriting
- Working on-site with the intermediary/customer, undertaking end-to-end handling for the allocated portfolio to deliver the agreed joint business development plans in line with the Company’s overall trading strategy.
- Working with the underwriting team, develop strong relationships with allocated intermediaries, balancing intermediary needs with the Company’s trading objective in a way that will deliver profitable and balanced trading growth.
- Plan and process own work in a way that will assist the team to meet its customer service targets including credit control targets.
- Act as a reference point on all issues for the allocated intermediary/customer or less experienced staff, so that a high level of customer service is delivered.
- Assist in maintaining a balanced and high quality portfolio, optimising the use of information gathered.
- Act as a mentor to the team on matters of a complex nature.
- Liaise with other departments including Sales & Development ensuring collaboration and service levels are maintained to the highest standard.
 
Supervision
- Manage Operations Team holidays and sickness.
- Distribute renewals and manage workloads.
- Liaise with Operations Manager and assist with the implementation of new initiatives, processes and procedures.
- Conduct regular Continuous conversations with employees and provide relevant feedback to Operations Manager.
- Promote, encourage, engage and embed global, regional and local policies, procedures and processes liaising with relevant stakeholders when necessary.
- Conduct office induction for new starters including introductions to team, tour of office including fire exits/where to assemble etc.
- Ensure the display of current H&S and insurance documents.
- Liaise with other departments including Sales & Development ensuring collaboration and service levels are maintained to the highest standard.
- Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
- Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the Product Conduct Risk Strategy Group (PCRSG), Underwriting & Claims Sub Committee (UCSC) , ExCo and Board for Conduct Risk.
 
Knowledge and Skills
- High level of competency in underwriting of Cargo, Freight or Engineering.
- Detailed understanding of technical underwriting, philosophy and Company trading strategy.
- Ability to interpret and effectively use management information.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of the local market.
- Dip CII/ACII or substantial progress towards is preferred.
- Previous experience of supervising a team would be preferred but not essential as this skill will be developed
- Internal relationships with other team members, the Sales & Development team, Line of Business Managers, Claims Department, Centralised Services, the Syndicate and the Directors.
- External relationships to be developed with a range of contacts within the allocated intermediaries and customers.
