Engineering Manager
Location: Middlesbrough
Responsible to the : Director of Operations
Salary : Negotiable depending on experience
Hours : Monday – Friday days

Main Purpose
The Engineering Manager will lead the engineering and maintenance functions at our drinks manufacturing facility, with a strong focus on bottling and canning line operations. This is a critical role in ensuring optimal equipment performance, minimal downtime, and continuous improvement in line efficiency and safety.
Duties:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, food safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO, GMP).
- Monitor and optimize line performance, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and energy usage.
- Lead and manage the maintenance and engineering team, including hiring, training, performance management, and shift coverage planning.
- Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure maximum equipment uptime, especially on high-speed bottling and canning lines.
- Manage and deliver engineering capital projects including machinery upgrades, installations, and plant expansions.
- Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues across all manufacturing and utility systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain teams to ensure production goals are met efficiently and safely.
- Manage engineering budgets, contractor relationships, spare parts inventory, and procurement of technical services.
- Management of site equipment obsolescence and replacement programme.
- Management of infrastructure maintenance across site.
- Maintain up to date documentation.
Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or related discipline).
- Minimum 5+ years of engineering management experience in beverage or FMCG manufacturing, preferably in a canning facility.
- Strong knowledge of high-speed canning lines, packaging machinery, conveyors, fillers, seamers, and CIP systems.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (PUWER, DSEAR, EAWR etc.)
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing maintenance and engineering teams.
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and project management abilities.
Desirable
- Knowledge of PLCs, automation systems, and SCADA.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Experience in a startup or scale-up manufacturing environment.
- Familiar with sustainability initiatives, such as energy-saving and waste reduction in manufacturing.
- BS th / 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Health & Safety qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH etc.)

The Role

- Monitoring material usage, minimising waste, and maintaining stock levels.

What you'll be doing
- Collaborate on a wide range of exciting transportation planning projects with multidisciplinary teams.
- Play a key role in supporting junior team members to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Drive innovation and establish best practices across highway schemes and development projects.
- Lead the delivery of Feasibility Studies, Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, LCWIPs, and Active Travel Plans.
- Conduct roundabout and junction capacity checks, contribute to preliminary highway design, and coordinate traffic count and speed data collection.
What we're looking for
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with post-qualification experience
- Proven record delivering in one or more of the following: LCWIPS, Local Travel Plans, Transport Assessments/Statements, Active Travel Report, Junction / Roundabout capacity modelling.
- High level junction & highway design including adoption knowledge. It would be desirable to have knowledge of the regulatory system to ensure that designs and projects comply with relevant laws and regulations.
- Knowledge and some experience of using engineering software tools such as Autocad, ARCADY/PICADY, LINSIG, TRICS, TEMPRO, PARAMICS and GIS and proficient in using Microsoft Excel. /
- Engage in activities involved in staying up to date with the latest advancements, technologies, and industry trends to provide cutting-edge solutions and maintain your expertise.
- Membership with ICE / IHE /CIHT or working towards membership.
