The opportunity
As Onshore Wind Health & Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for promoting and managing the implementation of EDF Renewables UK & Ireland Zero Harm ambitions across the Onshore Wind end-to-end portfolio, from development to operations and maintenance.
A key focus for the role consists in applying the hierarchy of risk control measures to our onshore wind assets: in development phases through ‘safe by design’ principles, and; during high risk activities such as construction, operations and maintenance; in addition to learning from events.
Working within a matrix organisation, a key aspect of the role is collaboration, in particular with H&S colleagues across the EDF Renewables portfolio including other business unit technologies and the Corporate HSE Team.

What you’ll be doing
You will be part of a team of H&S Specialists; the role will be expected to provide Health and Safety (H&S) support, input and advice to all teams throughout the product lifecycle, including concept, development, delivery, operations into decommissioning and deconstruction, with primary focus on supporting business H&S needs. There may be some crossover with Environmental and Quality systems.
A few times per month, you will be visiting onshore wind assets (wind farms, service centres, conception and development, etc.) across the UK and Ireland, promoting a Zero Harm H&S culture while establishing strong professional relationships with colleagues and contract partners out in the field-based businesses. You will be home based with flexibility across all UK & Ireland field and office locations, working flexibly to provide required services and be prepared and willing to respond to business needs and be able to assist an emergency situation. There may be a requirement for travel outside of the UK & Ireland, mainly France. A company use vehicle is provided.
Responsibilities will include;
• Being a role model setting the highest HSE standards and providing visible safety leadership, interacting with colleagues and other persons responsible for delivery.
• Providing assistance in creating and maintaining an environment where safety is seen as a fundamental priority and individuals take ownership for their actions.
• Deploying EDF Renewables UK & Ireland H&S policy commitments.
• Supporting the development of robust and accredited H&S management systems and procedures.
• Representing EDF Renewables UK & Ireland at internal and external H&S forums and events.
• Maintaining the highest levels of H&S to comply with all statutory and legal requirements that are applicable in the UK & Ireland (Inc. safety by design and industry best practice guidelines).
• Acting as a role model for H&S, setting high standards ensuring they are benchmarked as part of continual improvement.
• Overseeing and assisting in the creation and deployment of all H&S procedures applicable to Onshore Wind.
• Contributing to the risk management process for risks generated by the company's activities (risk evaluation and prevention plans).
What do you need to be great at this role?
You may be currently working in a health and safety environment, or be a Technician in the wind farm industry, looking to take your career onto a health and safety focused path.
We’re offering a unique opportunity to transition into a dedicated health and safety role, with training and development support. If you have the drive and ambition to grow, we’ll help you achieve industry-recognized certifications such as NEBOSH and IOSH as part of your ongoing professional development. Ideally you will have some of the following skills and experience.
- Experience of managing a health and safety function in developing projects and operational / multi-site environment.
- Ideally be qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent. Not essential.
- Engineering, construction and/or wind farm experience is desirable.
- Experience in high voltage equipment and switching experience is desirable.
- Ideally Chartered member of IOSH (or similar), or working towards CMIOSH status. Not essential,
- GWO training / certificates desirable.
- Being able to work at heights is desirable.

What you'll be doing:
- Support the local FMRE team to ensure appropriate risk controls are in place for their activities and that of our service providers.
- Ensure compliance with requirements relating to the introduction of new plant and work equipment and ongoing maintenance of that equipment.
- Review the safety management systems of prospective FMRE contractors through the pre-qualification process.
- Conduct EHS related inspections on internal operations and activities carried out by service providers, and support in collating formal records and action plans
- Provide a competent environment, health and safety advice for a wide range of strategic projects, through feasibility and design reviews
- Implement processes and complete compliance audits to ensure processes comply with relevant legal requirements, including (but not limited to) CDM Regulations 2015 and Building Safety Act.
- Ensuring work-related incidents (from near miss to lost time injury, and environmental incidents) are reported, investigated effectively and remedial actions are implemented.
- They will possess a good knowledge of EHS requirements in relation to Facilities Management (including construction and maintenance) processes, national laws and regulations relating to the workplace and will provide directions to the operational management and local 'safety support teams.
- They will promote Environment and Health & Safety topics at the workplace throughout the organisation at all levels (from top management to shop floor staff), including safety reviews, reporting KPIs, relevant training, awareness campaigns and EHS inductions.
Requirements:
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (minimum).
- Demonstrated experience in reporting to and working with key stakeholders to implement safety related projects/tasks in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
- First-hand experience of formal risk assessment and auditing techniques.
- Relevant experience in Facilities Management (including construction and maintenance)
- A considerate team player who also can work autonomously on their own initiative with a positive attitude whilst working to the expected Airbus behaviours.
- A clear understanding of the pragmatic and practical application of health and safety standards
- Proactive attitude towards continual professional development, including membership of professional body for health and safety practitioners such as IOSH (desired)
- Experienced with liaising with key business stakeholders, and able to build a rapport with the business at this level

To be a Jane Lewis Healthcare Assistant you must:
- Be over the age of 18 to apply
- Have the right to work in the UK.

- Have a valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Have 6 months prior experience in a healthcare setting
- Have excellent communication skills and a basic knowledge of the sector
