Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is looking for Nondestructive Evaluation Engineers to join our team in Berkeley, MO . We are looking for a range of experience, including Mid-Level or Senior NDE Engineers.
The Midwest Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) and Fleet Support team is part of the BDS Engineering department. We are an engineering team supporting space, commercial and defense air vehicles programs such as: 787, 777X, F-15, F-18, AV-8B, T-7A, T-45, MQ-25, KC-46, P-8, B-52, B-1, KC-135, Executive Transport platforms, Commercial Crew Transportation, Space Launch, and weapon systems. Our team is responsible for NDE Engineering supporting of pre-production, current production, and post-production efforts.
Along with supporting the aforementioned space commercial and defense programs; the team provides supplier standup/certification, fabrication support/trouble-shooting and fleet support activities across the Boeing value stream. The team also conducts NDE research and development for both internal and external customers. Our team is located in three cities: Huntsville, AL; Oklahoma City, OK; and St. Louis, MO. The chosen candidate will support the St Louis location.

Position Responsibilities:
- Apply nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods/approaches, such as acoustic, electromagnetic, thermal, optical and radiologic principles, in developing new and novel methods/approaches to address affordability and supportability objectives
- Develop new sensor technology and testing systems for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) applied to manufacturing and support areas
- Define requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and maintenance of products and approve their use
- Lead development of specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
- Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
- Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to address business needs
- Leads development, validation and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
- Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
- Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
- Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
- Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and customer requirements (ASNT, ASTM, AWS, ASME, ISO, etc.).
- Support audits, root cause analyses, and failure investigations as a subject matter expert.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
- Supports the Team Lead and work statement, assist defining strategies and/or provides consultation.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time minimum
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim Pre-start and final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science. (See level and experience below)
- 3+ years of experience in engineering
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in NDE/NDT engineering in a regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, defense, energy).
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics
- Experience with nondestructive evaluation processes (e.g., ultrasonic testing, radiography, eddy current testing, and penetrant inspection)
- Experience working in multi-discipline teams, a strong desire to work with technical and non-technical customers.
- Strong understanding of materials behavior, stress analysis, and fracture mechanics.
- Experience with project management tools
- Excellent time management skills to manage several simultaneous projects effectively and across various geographical locations.
- Active / Current Secret U.S. Security Clearance preferred but not required
(Level 3) Bachelor and typically 5+ years' work experience or a Master and 3+ years' experience.
(Level 4) Bachelor and typically 9+ years' work experience or a Master and 7+ years' experience.

Responsibilities

Your Role

Qualifications:

Experience:

We have an opportunity for a Non-Metallic Materials Engineer to join our Aerospace team in Yeovil. In this role you will be using advanced knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes in collaboration with our design and manufacturing teams for both our new and existing products involving various aerospace products within our portfolio which include Environmental Control Systems and Life Support systems.
· Primarily responsible for the selection and specification of materials and processes involved in the design and manufacture of polymer parts (Elastomers/Rubbers).
· Support on site moulding shop with process/material control and development.
· Maintain documentation relating to definition of requirements for materials and processes
· You will be a part of Design and Applications Engineering, Value Engineering, and support Supplier Transition requirements, including serving as part of the investigation in concurrent Design: participate to defining manufacturing process approval requirements, product testing and design new material qualification for aerospace applications.
· Driving specification evolution from locally-owned process specifications towards global Honeywell standards and significant supplier technical support for components with special processes, conducting maintenance audits to ensure specification and process compliance, support determination of Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) associated with process or product escapes, and identification of manufacturability improvement opportunities and cost reduction.
· Significant stakeholder management and ownership of project milestones will be expected, including key customer relationship maintenance with Honeywell Engineering (Design, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering) and Supply Chain personnel (Sourcing / ISC), as well as the entire supply base.
A minimum of a Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemical Technology or similar.
· Experience in materials design/selection and working experience in a manufacturing environment
· Knowledge and particular interest in Elastomers/Rubbers.
· Experience working with specialist materials and products as this will be working on aerospace products with safety critical elements attached.
· Ability to communicate clearly & concisely on complex technical matters to various levels in the organisation.
· Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize tasks quickly in a dynamically changing environment and analytical skills

We are now looking for a Materials Development Engineer or Senior Materials Development Engineer to join our growing team. Following our post-seed fundraise, Solena is entering a scale-up phase — shifting from a lab-focused setup to pilot-scale facilities for our new protein-based fibres. We’re now focused on onboarding exceptional talent with the right experience to support this important transition.
Role responsibilities:
- Develop scalable production processes for protein-based fibres including wet fibre spinning li>Operate and optimise our pilot wet fibre spinning line, and improve our spinning process to increase fibre performance and throughput
- Conduct a range of materials testing and characterisation studies, including SEM, XRD, FTIR, polarised Raman, TGA, rheometry, and textile testing
- Work closely and flexibly with our interdisciplinary team of materials scientists, engineers, and synthetic biologists
- Design and carry out experiments independently
- Propose hypotheses, coordinate experiments and test them efficiently
Qualifications & Experience required
- BSc or higher (MSc or PhD) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Textile Engineering or equivalent work experience
- High levels of creativity and experience in planning experiments

- Excellent communication skills
