Junior Network Engineer Key Aims

  • You'll offer support to users, who can be staff, clients, customers, and suppliers, and troubleshoot any problems. In some cases, this may involve designing new networks.
  • Your aim is to ensure the integrity of high-availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance for your users.
  • Although this position is primarily an engineering role, you must have a flair for sales and be able to successfully demonstrate the company's products at exhibitions and to customers as and when required.
Key Tasks
  • Evaluate new networking technologies/environments, including software and hardware
  • Monitors the performance of networks and makes recommendations concerning network quality.
  • Create customer and site-specific profiles and provide troubleshooting services to customers and users

  • Design network Topologies and write user and operational documentation. Provides subsequent support and training for users.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • Establish the networking environment by designing the system, installing of software, configuring, and testing
  • Undertake Wi-Fi Surveys and make recommendations on where to locate access points
  • Design, implement, and project plan new solutions and improve the resilience of the current environment
  • Maximise network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with network architects on network optimisation
  • Undertake data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments using information from multiple sources
  • Secure network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, defining and monitoring access
  • Support and administer firewall environments in line with IT security policy
  • Report network operational status by gathering and prioritising information, and managing projects.
  • Upgrade data network equipment to the latest stable firmware/software releases
  • Installing/removing software on Linux/Android/Windows-based devices.
  • Configure routing and switching equipment, hosted IP voice service, and firewalls.
  • Provide remote support to on-site engineers and end users/customers. Visit the remote site where necessary.
  • Using Wireshark and other tools to monitor TCP/IP streams where necessary.
  • Get access to debug logs where necessary
  • Undertake capacity management and audit of IP addressing and hosted devices within data centres.
  • Trace and Debug application software, especially in relation to SIP Endpoints
  • Liaise with project management teams, third-line engineers, and service desk engineers on a regular basis
  • Speak to customers via email and phone for initial requirement capture.
Salary And Holidays
  • The starting salary will be £25 per annum based on a 37.5-hour week and will rise in accordance with experience

Working Hours

You'll typically work a standard week (Monday to Friday – 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM). However, you may be on call outside office hours, at weekends or in the evenings, and you will need to be flexible in case of major technical problems occurring.

As Fanatics Betting & Gaming (FBG) accelerates Fanatics' mission to build the ultimate digital sports platform, the Platform Engineer III (Infrastructure, Compute & Networking) role empowers our engineering teams by delivering rock-solid cloud foundations. Joining our OddsFactory division, you'll focus on Azure best practices, networking, cluster/compute operations, and secure connectivity. OddsFactory powers in-play features at massive scale (billions of simulations/month). Today we run Windows services on Service Fabric in Azure; we're accelerating Kubernetes + GitOps (Argo CD) and exploring dual-cloud opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Provision and operate compute foundations: VM Scale Sets, Service Fabric clusters (Windows nodes), and Kubernetes clusters (Windows/Linux node pools), including upgrades, node image/patching, and custom autoscaling solutions
  • Implement secure-by-default and Zero Trust patterns across network and runtime (segmentation, least privilege, workload identity/OIDC, egress controls, policy-as-code).
  • Build reusable IaC modules and guardrails (RBAC, Azure Policy) that standardize landing zones and paved paths for product teams.
  • Collaborate with application/platform teams on connectivity patterns (service endpoints, private access, ingress/egress), documentation, and enablement.
  • Establish SLOs and deep observability for infra/network (Datadog), including metrics, traces, logs, flow logs, dashboards, alerts, and actionable runbooks.
  • Partner with teams to onboard to golden paths; provide enablement, examples, and reference implementations.
  • Contribute to capacity planning, cost optimization (FinOps), and operational readiness.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, ensuring platform stability and providing critical support for operational incidents.
  • Occasionally travel for essential offsite meetings, special events, or collaborative team sessions.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years in platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure roles operating Azure production environments.
  • Hands-on expertise in Azure networking and security services (VNets, routing, NSGs/ASGs, Firewall, WAF/AGW, Private Link/Endpoints, DNS, load balancing).
  • Operations experience with Service Fabric and/or Kubernetes cluster administration in production.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform; Terragrunt preferred; ARM/CloudFormation a plus).
  • Proficiency with programming/scripting (PowerShell & .NET preferred; familiarity with Go or Python is a bonus).
  • Experience with observability (e.g., Datadog), chaos testing, and incident management.

We are looking for a proactive, IT literate individual to join us here at Southern Water as a Network Engineer in the Hampshire region. This role will involve the management and reviewing the site activities of Southern Water contractors.

Key Activities
  • Conduct field investigations into various sewerage related incidents so that solutions can be identified and appropriate action is taken.
  • Investigate sewer incidents to identify root causes and recommend remedial works to address problems and prevent repeat incidents.
  • Escalate incidents as required to ensure appropriate actions are taken.
  • Serve as a key link between Operational Sewerage Teams and Asset Teams to ensure day‑to‑day operational issues and sewerage related incidents are understood and maintenance/resolutions put in place.
Accountabilities
  • Internal Flooding & Pollution Incidents – Key activity incident dependant, estimate 35%-time utilisation:
  • The role will be area based and will require Network Engineers at the request of their Team Leader, the control desk, the Pollution Team and/or the Reactive Sewers Management team attend to Flooding incidents and Pollution incidents.
  • On internal flooding incidents they will be required to liaise with the customer during the incident keeping them informed as to the actions our service providers are taking to resolve incidents, manage the customer’s expectations, and advise them on any recourse they may be entitled to as a result of any damages and inconvenience.
  • On Pollution incidents they will be required to liaise with the EA and the pollution team and the Service Provider to ensure that pollution incidents are resolved quickly with the minimum impact to the environment and the public.
  • They will be required to work closely with the EA in all aspects of the incident and ensure that the correct categorisation of the pollution is assigned by the EA. Sewer Incident Investigations – Estimate 35%-time utilisation.
  • The Network Engineer will also be a key link between the Operational Sewerage Teams and Asset Teams to ensure that day‑to‑day operational issues and Sewerage related incidents are understood and appropriate maintenance put in place.
  • They will be required to take on cases of sewer related incidents to investigate root causes and identify corrective actions required in terms of investment or maintenance regimes.
  • They will use data such as CCTV footage, still images and SW records.
  • There will be a requirement to work closely with the Reactive Sewers Capa Investigation Technician Asset Manager to identify hot spot areas and repeat blockages etc are resulting on escalating reactive work costs which may be better responded to with a longer‑term solution requiring investment approval.
  • Investigation will also extend in such areas as infiltration, land drainage and unlawful connections.
  • A proactive approach is required from the Network Engineer in terms of future prevention of blockages.
  • This will include making the customer aware of nuisance related issues such as the effects of rodents; fats oil and grease have in causing blockages. Regulatory Reporting, M.I & Data Quality verification – Time utilisation 20%.
  • The role will require a level of administration to be carried out to ensure reporting and regulatory obligations are met. Typically, this will involve the verification of SIRF, PIRF and Red Line MGIS sketches.
  • The Network Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the data quality and accuracy on these documents meets the company required standards for the operational areas they are responsible for.
  • Governance – Time utilisation 10% - To ensure our service partners are performing to the required SW standards the Network Engineer will be required to regularly visit sites to record progress and resolve issues.
Desirable Requirements
  • A fundamental knowledge of sewers systems is required.
  • A functional knowledge of the Reactive Sewers end‑to‑end process.
  • A functional knowledge of the SIRF, PIRF & MGIS process is required.
  • A functional knowledge of CSMS & Ellipse is required.
  • An understanding of NRSWA legislation is required.
  • Skills and Competencies on reactive incidents critical behaviours will be to provide the customer/public and EA confidence and assurance that an incident is being handled efficiently and effectively and that their best interest are being addressed.
