During the Graduate Research Programme, you will support and train with the research team within your allocated department, as directed by your Line Manager or Senior Management, in a timely and professional manner. You will have 6 months of training to then progress straight into a research associate role once completed.


Main duties and responsibilities

  • To research records, both in-house and externally as referred to you by Case Managers
  • To provide effective and efficient administrative service, including scanning, photocopying and filing, to Case Managers and the rest of the team
  • To assist Case Managers with written correspondence and report preparation
  • To help with ordering and distributing certificates
  • To process family tree requests
  • To assist Case Managers with creating distribution schedules
  • To undertake training and development as specified by the Line Manager
  • Ensure that your workstation is kept clean and tidy
  • Any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested

About the role

The Senior Research Support Officer is based within the School of Neuroscience and will primarily provide high-level research administration support to two departments: Basic and Clinical Neuroscience and Neuroimaging, on the Denmark Hill campus.

The role holder will work closely with researchers to manage the end-to-end grant lifecycle and is responsible for overseeing and actioning pre- and post-award processes to ensure awards are managed in accordance with funder and University policies.  

The role would suite someone who has significant experience within research grant administration, with good attention to detail, able to effectively manage their time and is able to build and maintain effective working relationships across the School, Faculty and University.

The role will provide individuals with a wide variety of experience and skills working across research administration in a large and complex School and Faculty, supporting the individual to progress their career within research administration across the University.

The post is hybrid with an expectation of 3 days per week on campus.

This is a full time role and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

About the Role

This role supports the efficient delivery of national healthcare research projects and other ongoing workstreams within the Research Team. This includes general administration, meeting preparation and note taking, and answering queries.

Research Assistant in Neurodegeneration Research - Strand, London, WC2R 2LS About us

The Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience at King's College London is looking for a passionate individual with experience in stem cell culture and strong communication skills to fill a research assistant position. This role is part of a Discovery Network Award funded by the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, which aims to find drug targets for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

The successful candidate will join Dr Jemeen Sreedharan's research group and will be supervised by project co-lead Dr Ravindra Prajapati.  Dr Sreedharan’s group studies the causes of ALS and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) using in vitro and in vivo models, advanced genetic editing, and cutting-edge Omics techniques.

Dr Sreedharan's lab is part of the Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience, which supports innovative research with state-of-the-art technology and offers exceptional opportunities to collaborate with leading scientists in neurodegenerative diseases. The Department is located in the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute at the Denmark Hill Campus of King’s College London.

About the role

This is a collaborative project involving multiple laboratories and it aims to find drug targets for ALS and FTD. We will create a nearly complete allelic series of iPSC lines with TDP-43 mutations. This will use a newly developed parental cell line with attP landing pads. We will then turn these iPSC lines into motor neurons and study them using transcriptomics, proteomics, immunocytochemistry, and electrophysiology. This comprehensive approach will help us understand how TDP-43 mutations lead to neurodegeneration.

This is a full-time position (1 FTE; 35 hours per week: Responsibilities will encompass some tasks associated with project management at 0.2 FTE approx. and 0.8 FTE as Research Assistant). T

The post is offered as a fixed-term contract for 18 months with potential for a short extension.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the  Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers , applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. About you

We’re looking for a Research Engineer who thrives at the cutting edge of technology — someone who doesn’t just ask questions but brings ideas, experiments, and solutions to the table. You’ll be part of a collaborative, low-ego team pushing the boundaries of liveness verification and biometric security to protect millions of users worldwide.

In this role, you’ll spend most of your time exploring and innovating, developing new biometric tests — from palm and fingerprint matching to advanced presentation-attack detection — to stay one step ahead of attackers.

As a Research Director, you’ll have the autonomy to flex your research and sector knowledge expertise, whilst drawing upon our industry leading toolkit of research methodologies, tools, techniques and proprietary thinking to help deliver better human understanding for our clients.

Managing quantitative projects you’ll get to work with our Qual team on mixed methodology projects as well as collaborate with our neuro, behavioural and data science teams to integrate deeper human understanding.

We offer Hybrid working, which for us is a blend of working remotely and in either our London or Winchester office. It’s all about choosing the best place to be for you, your team, and the business on any given working day.

As a Research Director you'll get to:

  • Champion your client account(s), focussing on developing these relationships and maximise their growth potential
  • Create project proposals for large and complex assignments, outlining methodology, costs, incorporating Human Understanding and a clear reason for using Walnut Unlimited
  • Take decisions on managing new projects, allocation of resources and strategic planning of new business opportunities
  • Oversee complex tasks, leading communication, briefing project teams and managing/delegating workload effectively
  • Deliver client debriefs, overseeing preparation of presentation material, compiling/ writing conclusions and recommendations
  • Learn about the role of neuroscience and behavioural science within research and receive support in applying these techniques
  • Build and manage the teams working on your projects/accounts
  • Conduct staff appraisals, communicating and setting objectives, and motivating staff
  • Work with the board to develop Walnut Unlimited’s vision and strategic direction

Requirements

Who will you be?

  • An experienced Quantitative Research Director, agency or client-side. We’re also happy to hear from experienced Associate Directors looking for a step up to advance your career
  • You'll have proven experience in designing and delivering complex projects demonstrating expertise in a range of quantitative methodologies
  • A fresh thinker with an open mind to build on your experience to offer clients the best research to answer their objectives
  • An outstanding communicator, skilled in both verbal and written communication, adept at articulating purpose, role, priorities, and objectives with clarity.
  • Solid project and people management skills including planning, controlling costs and overseeing projects
  • Collaborative, inclusive and professional in your approach to working with colleagues, clients, partners and suppliers
  • A creative storyteller with a talent for cutting through the data and writing compelling summaries, conclusions and recommendations
  • A strong presenter whose personal delivery reflects confidence, enthusiasm and personality with the ability to deliver value and insight to the client
  • You’ll have some knowledge and want to learn more about behavioural science the role of neuroscience within research
