Loughborough University Library has an exciting opportunity to join our Library Leadership Team as our Open Research Lead.
In this post you will lead the strategic development and management of the Librarys support for Open Research, working across the University to further our institutional ambitions. Our Open Research team, which you will lead and manage, also includes our Archivist and our Copyright and Licensing Manager, ensuring that this interesting role can explore opening up research from a variety of angles.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Library Services, you will be a member of our collaborative Library Leadership Team helping to shape our services for the future. You will deliver activity against identified areas of Library strategic focus, working across formal operational structures.
You will be proactive and enthusiastic with leadership and management experience. You will possess strong collaboration and influencing skills combined with the ability to motivate and lead change.
You will have knowledge of the open research landscape, including the academic open publishing environment, reproducibility of research and factors that increase research discovery. You will be able to apply this knowledge to support open research service provision in-line with Library and University strategy.

Key Responsibilities

What will I be doing?
As a Multidisciplinary Science Lead, you will play a critical role in identifying and developing new scientific and impactful opportunities that can leverage and cut across the existing Infectious Disease programmes of work in our epidemiology, therapeutics, vaccines, clinical research and policy teams.
As well as interfacing with scientific initiatives across Wellcome, a key part of this role will be to identify and support new relationships with other funders and stakeholders, to advance our strategy of developing and delivering new interventions to combat infectious disease in the highest burden settings.
You will contribute to shaping the vision and strategy of the Infectious Disease programme, working across teams and functions to assist in defining the most impactful partnerships required for the programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic Infectious Disease projects: Working with the Director and other members of the Infectious Disease Senior management team, leading and managing key multidisciplinary initiatives aligned with the Infectious Disease strategy, including scoping, planning, and delivery.

**The Role**
We're seeking a technically versatile GenAI Solutions Engineer Lead to join our department. You'll help set the technical direction, lead by example, and embed cutting-edge GenAI practices into our software delivery?This role requires deep expertise in software engineering and the latest in Generative AI, with the ability to embed these practices into teams and promote a collaborative, high-performing culture.
As the GenAI Solutions Engineer, you'll need to demonstrate a deep understanding of user needs and contributing to the overall product vision, translating cutting-edge GenAI research into scalable, production-grade solutions, bridging the gap between experimentation and enterprise deployment.
Our tech stack is diverse, encompassing (but not limited to) Python, Go, TypeScript, React, Kubernetes, Mongo, and Generative AI features requiring adaptability and a willingness to learn.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Lead applied GenAI research, focusing on prompt engineering, RAG, and agentic workflows
+ Architect and deliver end-to-end LLM solutions - from experimentation to production
+ Design evaluation frameworks to benchmark LLM performance, safety, and behaviour
+ Build integration layers connecting LLMs to APIs, middleware, and enterprise systems
+ Collaborate across teams to drive adoption of modern engineering practices and GenAI tooling

**Experience:**
+ Proven experience as an Engineering Lead, Software Engineering Manager, or similar role
+ Strong expertise in multiple programming languages (preferably Python, Go, and TypeScript), frameworks, and tools
+ Have deployed LLM systems to production and understand evaluation, guard-railing, and monitoring
+ Proven experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, container-based micro-services, distributed logs, SQL and NoSQL databases, and DevSecOps
+ Experience working in a product focused team as opposed to a project focused team is beneficial
