Using technology to drive real and meaningful change. That's one good thing.
At Capital One, we're on a mission: to change credit – one good thing at a time. You might think of us as a credit card company. But the truth is, we're just as much a technology business. And we're here to make a positive difference – to our customers, our colleagues and community.
Our Tech teams challenge the status quo and make an impact on millions of customers every single day. And that's what makes a career in technology here like nowhere else. During the Graduate programme you will be able to rotate into three different teams, which will give you a broad and varied experience, allowing you to hone your skills and strengths before choosing which area you'd like to explore more.
Your rotations will be within our core tech teams. During these rotations you could be:
- Working on customer experience and journeys across our apps and website, creating backend APIs alongside our Services teams.
- Making sure our systems are stable and reliable in our Site Reliability teams.
- Working with our Data Engineering teams to ensure all the information we store is safe and secure, but ready to be accessed at a moment's notice.
- Supporting our Cloud teams as we finish our migration to AWS.
You may also have the option to rotate outside of tech after your first rotation into another business area, if there are any other areas you would like to explore. No matter the area you work within, you'll receive training to equip you with the tools to drive forward your development and ours. Such as our Quality Academy, which enables us to effectively design and deliver software that adds value to our customers.
One of the happy consequences of making finance easier for our customers is that Capital One is an inspiring place to launch your career. Join us, and you'll have a manager, mentor and buddy for support as you take on meaningful work in collaborative teams. We've got a great track record of hiring graduates and enabling them to reach their full potential. Just look at our former CEO, Lucy Hagues. She started as a graduate, led the UK business, and is now an Executive Vice President for Capital One Enterprise And that's just one of many success stories.
What you'll need
We understand this may be your first role, or that you might not have experience within a professional tech environment. And that's okay We don't mind what degree background or grades you have, but we want to see:
- You have a good foundation of coding skills (in any language).
- You have the flexibility and aptitude for the learning it takes to master lots of different tools and technologies.
- Your approach when it comes to coding and how you solve problems.
- How you communicate and collaborate with others.
- Your enthusiasm about tech and Capital One.
The Recruitment Process
Step 1: Apply We don't screen CV's so there's no need to tailor your CV or attach a cover letter. After your initial application, if you meet the eligibility criteria you will be sent online testing to complete, which will assess the core skills required for the role.
Step 2: Next up, you will be invited to complete a one way video interview, looking at your motivations for the role and some examples where you've shown the soft skills we're looking for.
Step 3: You'll get to (virtually) meet with two members of our tech team during the assessment day, which consists of a pair programming exercise and a presentation and strengths based interview.
Step 4: The final interview, where you will be invited to meet with one of our Senior Software Managers in person. This is a great opportunity for you to have a look around our offices, and learn more about life as a grad from one of our own.
What's in it for you?
- Outstanding learning and career development through our Capital One Develop UK training programmes (and appropriate external providers).
- Core benefits including; a pension scheme, bonus, generous holidays, private medical insurance. Flexible benefits including season-ticket loans and a cycle to work scheme.
- Open-plan workspaces and accessible facilities designed to support and inspire you, including a fully serviced gym, subsidised restaurant, mindfulness and games rooms.
- Plenty of volunteering opportunities to give back to the community through our community impact and investment programmes.
- Regular social events run by our GradComm team, as well as an annual company-wide summer festival and Christmas party.
- You can even help to shape how our early careers programmes look for future graduates by joining one of our working groups or becoming a buddy/mentor yourself.
Where and how you'll work
This is a permanent position based at our Nottingham office.
We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home. We're big on collaboration and connection, so you'll be based in our Nottingham office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Many of our associates have flexible working arrangements, and we're open to talking about an arrangement that works for you.
What you should know about how we recruit
We pride ourselves on hiring the best people, not the same people. Building diverse and inclusive teams is the right thing and the smart thing to do. We want to work with top talent: whoever you are, whatever you look like, wherever you come from. We know it's about what you do, not just what you say. That's why we make our recruitment process fair and accessible.
We are committed to creating teams that are representative of our customers and the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone, and would particularly love to hear from you if you identify with an under-represented group in our industry, such as women, the LGBTQ+ community and ethnic minority candidates.
We also partner with organisations including the Women in Finance and Race At Work Charters, Stonewall and upReach to find people from every walk of life and help them thrive with us. We have a whole host of internal networks and support groups you could be involved in, to name a few:

Job Description
Support a startup enabling more people to donate blood in Ghana
BloodForce
We work in Ghana to eliminate the burden of blood acquisition on providers and patients in crisis by leveraging technology to galvanize the public to increase Ghana's Blood Collection Index to greater than 10 by 2030, because no patient in crisis should die from unavailability of blood products.
Ghana at 5.6 per 1000 population, is significantly behind WHO minimum standard (10 per 1,000 population) required to meet a country's basic transfusion needs. As a result, restrictive blood disbursement policies have resulted in delayed care for critical patients in Ghana and in many cases, avoidable deaths.
We believe that public communities can be mobilized to close gaps in health care delivery, particularly in developing countries. BloodForce plans to build an online blood donor community that can reliably and meaningfully increase blood donation rates in Ghana while helping patients and families navigate their blood product health crises. This community will also serve as a platform for advocacy and education, strengthening transfusion services across the country.
