Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Industrial Systems Architect to lead the design and implementation of advanced industrial systems and automation solutions. This is a fully remote role, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK while contributing to critical projects. You will be responsible for defining the strategic direction of our industrial systems, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and aligned with business objectives. This involves deep analysis of current infrastructure, identifying future needs, and architecting comprehensive solutions that integrate hardware, software, and networking components. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in designing complex manufacturing environments, optimizing workflows, and implementing Industry 4.0 technologies. Your role will extend to evaluating new technologies, setting architectural standards, and guiding engineering teams through the implementation lifecycle. Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain the overall architectural vision for industrial systems and automation.
  • Lead the design and integration of complex manufacturing systems, including MES, SCADA, and ERP integration.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and methodologies to enhance operational efficiency and digital transformation.
  • Define architectural standards, patterns, and best practices for industrial system development and deployment.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial systems architecture, automation, and control systems design.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Industry 4.0 concepts, IoT, AI/ML in manufacturing, and digital twin technologies.
  • Strong understanding of IT/OT convergence, cybersecurity principles for industrial environments, and cloud integration.
  • Experience with PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, MES, and ERP integration.
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and manage diverse engineering teams.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in a remote-first environment and managing distributed teams effectively.
