About the Role
We’re looking for a Business Analyst to join our Business Analysis Practice delivering data-focused projects in the defence sector.
This role is about more than gathering requirements – you’ll work closely with stakeholders, contribute to shaping delivery, and help guide clients on how to harness data to achieve mission-critical outcomes.
You’ll bring proven experience in management information (MI), discovery work, and data analytics projects, using insight to enable better decision-making at all levels.
We value people who are self-motivated, proactive, collaborative, and curious - someone who can adapt to ambiguity, develop their skills through experience, and grow their confidence in tackling complex problems.
This is a primarily remote role with occasional travel to client sites and our offices in London, Sheffield, or Bristol. Security Clearance will be required (details provided during interview).
Key Responsibilities
· Collaboration – Act as the bridge between stakeholders and delivery teams, co-creating clear requirements and supporting issue resolution.
· Stakeholder Engagement – Build trusted relationships with defence stakeholders, ensuring business needs are understood and aligned with outcomes.
· Discovery & Problem Analysis – Contribute to discovery activities, scoping opportunities, clarifying problem spaces, and supporting solution design.
· Process & Service Improvement – Map and analyse as-is processes, support design of to-be processes, and apply service thinking to create user-centred improvements.
· Data Source Analysis & Insight – Analyse data sources to define metrics, contribute to design of meaningful MI, and create visualisations that support decision-making.
· Data-Driven Recommendations – Contribute to MI and analytics projects, helping to assess risks, opportunities, benefits, and costs.
· Clear Communication – Produce visual models, user stories, acceptance criteria, and concise documentation that bring clarity to complexity.
· Enable Delivery – Support implementation, troubleshoot issues, and ensure adoption of change.
· Community & Development – Support colleagues, share best practices, and actively contribute to shaping our BA Community of Practice and career pathway.
· Ethics & Governance – Promote responsible use of data, ensuring compliance with governance and ethical principles within sensitive defence environments.

Requirements
Ideal Candidate Profile
· Experience contributing to MI, data analytics, and discovery projects.
· Ability to analyse data sources, define business questions and metrics, and support dashboard/visualisation design (Power BI, Tableau).
· Proactive and self-motivated, able to drive outcomes while developing confidence and independence.
· Comfortable with ambiguity and able to adapt when challenges are unclear or complex.
· Confident engaging with stakeholders across different levels.
· Skilled in eliciting and refining business requirements (workshops, interviews, workflow mapping).
· Familiar with Agile ways of working and tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello).
· Proficient in developing Epics, Use Cases, and User Stories with scenario-based acceptance criteria.
· Awareness of relational data modelling, ETL, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
· Awareness of Data Science, AI, and big data principles.
Desirable Skills and experience
- Experience in Defence
- IIBA or BCS professional certification.
- Awareness of data governance (DAMA) and/or data architecture principles
- Understanding of user-centred design and service design principles.

1. Firstly, we place you on a training program which provides a pathway to the most relevant industry recognised certification being the BCS Business Analysis Diploma. The diploma comprises of 4 certification courses and a final oral examination signing you off as Business Analyst through the BCS. Study time to complete all of the certifications is recommended at around 90 hours to achieve exam pass level.
2. Once you have successfully passed the 4 required certification exams and the oral exam which make up the diploma, you will be handed over to our recruitment support team. They will then work with you to help rewrite your cv to a professional standard to highlight the skills required by Business Analyst recruiters. In addition, they will also assist in creating a professional LinkedIn profile, interview support, career advice and tailored support such as taking you through mock interviews.
3. Our recruitment advice consultants will work with you to identify the best opportunities available which are suited to you. Their tailored support ensures you only apply for roles where there is a realistic chance of success and help you to prepare for interviews and perform at your best. Typically, starter roles will be junior business analyst, junior analyst or a support/admin role utilising your analytical skills.
Business Analysts work closely with Project Managers and Change Managers and opportunities in these areas also exist which broadens the net in these sister sectors. Further study into Project Management certifications can expand the breadth of roles you find available.
