American Express ("AXP") is looking for a colleague who will ambitiously own and manage Indirect Tax Advisory responsibilities in EMEA. The role will provide best in class tax support to various business lines and other critical stakeholders of the corporation. This is an advisory and controversy focused role working closely with the wider regional tax and finance organization and reporting to VP-Taxes, EMEA region located in London.
**How will you make an impact in this role?**
In the capacity of Indirect Tax director, you will act as trusted advisor to the business and wider stakeholders in the region, as well as AXP Global Tax Organization. The role is VAT/ wider indirect tax advisory focused, ensuring strong and appropriate tax strategies are implemented, engage in proactive advocacy, audit management and interaction with internal and external interest groups.
**Core responsibilities include:**
+ **Lead VAT and indirect tax advisory for the region:** Provide practical UK and EU VAT advice to the enterprise.Ensure stakeholders understand tax positions. Proactively participate in business initiatives and other projects to drive tax efficiency.
+ **Manage Tax Authority audits on indirect tax returns and positions:** Oversee indirect tax audits ensuring appropriate positions are taken. Lead dispute resolution including associated litigation, and manage any associated third-party advisors.
+ **Engage in tax landscape monitoring and advocacy:** Take a lead in identifying, understanding and communicating UK and EU legislative and case law developments.Communicate any resulting potential tax position changes. Actively participate in lobbying efforts.
+ **Provide leadership and collaboration:** Guide and support the development of direct report(s). Collaborate with regional and global tax teams. Develop and maintain a network within the wider organisation and other business functions.Ensure smooth business knowledge sharing within the Global Tax organisation. Support tax process improvements and governance, including digital transformation opportunities.
**Qualifications Required:**
+ Extensive high quality, impactful post-qualification indirect tax experience gained in a reputable professional environment and/or large multinational corporate environment.
+ Proven multi-jurisdictional understanding of relevant indirect tax rules and an appreciation of emerging legislation impacting the EMEA region.
+ Hold a relevant professional qualification (i.e., accounting, legal and/or tax).
+ Must be highly analytical and be able to creatively apply tax rules to business situations to achieve positive results, while ensuring full compliance with applicable laws.
+ A strong, proactive and collaborative leader with good teamwork, partnership & negotiation skills.
+ Must be a self-starter with high integrity and ethics. Can work independently with high effectiveness, diligence and speed of actions.
+ Clear communication skills, including proven ability to distill and explain highly technical issues to diverse audience.
+ Proven relationship builder across functions, levels, and world zones; exudes a true, collaborative orientation.
+ Business level English language skills required.

Your new role
