We are looking for an Assistive Technology Support Officer to remove technological barriers to inclusion within the council. They will work with disabled colleagues to identify and implement assistive technology. They will provide direct support, as well as knowledge sharing, training, and advice.

What will I be doing?

You will

• Establish and manage our assistive technology support function.

• Work directly with disabled colleagues to identify and implement adjustments to remove the barriers they face.

• Work with IT support teams to increase their knowledge and confidence around assistive technology.

• Develop resources to support colleagues in the effective use of assistive technologies.

• Keep up to date with advances in assistive technology

• Provide specialist advice and guidance to colleagues to help ensure we consider assistive technology needs when planning changes.

What do I need to have?

We are not looking for any specific qualifications. We are looking for:

• Expertise in a range of assistive technologies and how they can be used to remove barriers for disabled people. Especially the tools available as part of the Microsoft suite.

• Experience supporting people with different impairments and support needs.

• The ability to communicate effectively and with empathy with people at all levels of the organisation.

• Ability to manage a varied workload including responsive support, ongoing case management, project work and admin.

• Understanding the social model of disability, and the council's duties under the Equality Act 2010
