The Role

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Consultant to join our Life Technology Strategy team. This dynamic role operates as an in-house consultancy, partnering with senior business and technology stakeholders to shape the future of Life Technology. You will drive strategic review, challenge, and deliver innovative solutions that align with long-term business goals.

As a key member of the team, reporting through the LIFE Technology Strategy Function, you will be instrumental in identifying, defining, and executing strategic initiatives. Key Responsibilities
  1. Stakeholder Engagement:

We are looking for a Head of Technology Strategy to join our Leadership Team in Corporate Functions Technology.

The ability to deliver our strategic goals and build a business for the future is underpinned by the need for a coherent, joined up technology, digital and data strategy, which is supported and driven to outcome through our Portfolio & Delivery Teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ownership for defining, in partnership with Heads of Technology, a coherent digital, tech & data strategy that encompasses the constituent parts that can be practically applied into the individual Corporate Functions Teams.
  • Develop relevant business case for implementation of new business capabilities within the tech, digital and data space, for presentation to appropriate committees and influence buy in
  • Define roadmap and delivery plan to achieve strategy, working closely with the Director of IT and other Heads of roles to prioritise and drive through to delivery
  • Proactively identify innovation opportunities across the Corporate Functions, keeping abreast of market disruption, trends, new and emerging technologies, and engaging with broader technology and third party partners
  • Engage with their counterparts within the Technology organisation to ensure that technical strategy is aligned with Enterprise Architecture
  • Responsible for the co-ordination of innovation opportunity identification and funnel/pipeline management
  • Drive continuous improvement to feed into overall strategy, through process and feedback loop supported by metrics

Our client Scottish Power Renewables are seeking an OT Lead for a minimum 6 month contract role, although scope to go longer.

Job Purpose Statement

The role has the responsibility for all aspects of OT Infrastructure delivery, managed by the Renewables UK Centre of Excellence, in terms of ensuring the quality of the provided services to all areas of the Scottish Power Renewables business to ensure they are available, secure, compliant, and operating within agreed service levels and risk acceptance.

Support services are provisioned in accordance with the Iberdrola Global Group standard processes and procedures and using the Group Operational Support Tools (Service Management Toolset, Monitoring, Alerting, Service Console etc.) applicable to OT. Where no Global Group standard processes, procedures and tools exist for OT, the necessary policies, technologies and processes must be identified and incorporated within the UK Renewables CoE to maintain the integrity and availability of systems.

This role should ensure any new OT services are compliant with all relevant external regulation and legislation including relevant international standards. New OT services should also be compliant with the different policies and regulations of the Iberdrola Group.

The Renewables CoE OT Services Lead will coordinate with the Local Cybersecurity Office, Digital Transformation, Onshore O&M, Offshore O&M, Onshore Precommercial and Offshore Precommercial, in the development and maintenance of OT solutions and services, whether the solution is developed, acquired or offered as a service.

Accountability Statement

• To agree required SLAs of each OT service, based on cost-benefit and risk management criteria.
• To assure the OT services delivery to business areas, with the quality levels defined in the agreed SLA’s.
• Responsible for OT Service conformance in accordance with ITIL best practice and Group Global standards for Service Desk operation, Change Management, Incident Management, Configuration Management, Problem management and Reporting.
• To establish and assure the required acceptance criteria for new OT services, changes and anything that could have an impact on availability, performance, capacity or continuity to guarantee that services are provided according to the agreed conditions.
• Management and review of the Support Aspects of the OT services provided in the UK by the key Suppliers.
• Project delivery of SPR Office OT projects defined in SPR Operating Plan.
• Change and Request Management.
• Support resource prioritisation management.
• Post holder may be expected to undertake standby cover outside normal office hours.

  • Running end to end sourcing activity: Lead RFI/RFP/RFQ and market engagement, design scoring frameworks, run due diligence, and make detailed award recommendations.
  • Negotiating smart commercials: Shape pricing, indexation, benchmarking, volume/commit discounts, service credits and outcome‑based models; close high impact, best in class deals.
  • Contracting & governance: Own the commercial spine of MSAs/SOWs/SLAs and partner with Legal on detailed contract negotiation, focussing on IPR/licensing, liability/indemnity, audit, termination/exit; maintain a clean contracts database/CLM with proactive renewals and obligation tracking.
  • Managing Risk & ESG: Drive third party risk management with Security, Privacy and Compliance and embed sustainable procurement and supplier diversity goals into sourcing and SRM.
  • SRM & performance: Lead QBRs, track SLAs/KPIs, manage escalations, and run improvement and innovation roadmaps with strategic suppliers.

Purpose of the role

To optimise and address Barclays 3rd party spend requirements, including the definition, development and implementation of approaches for relevant spend categories and requirements with close collaboration with the business and execution of strategic sourcing and buying channel development/optimisation.

Accountabilities

  • Profile spend in category area and develop understanding of business strategy, business requirements, cost levers and opportunities. Collaboration with internal stakeholders to identify sourcing needs, develop requests for proposal and ensure sourcing activities align to the banks needs and priorities.
  • Planning and execution of sourcing events including RFP/ RFXs, negotiations to best meet the business requirements for value, speed, compliance, risk.
  • Monitoring and guiding of controls and compliance requirements to be met through the category and sourcing cycle from request to contract, including regulatory engagement, controls, audits, data quality etc….
  • Development, implementation and operation of policies and procedures for sourcing activities aligned to the policies, standards, relevant compliance and regulation.
  • Identification and delivery of change opportunities to improve effectiveness, control and efficiency of sourcing processes including buying channel optimisation for relevant categories of spend (catalogues, demand challenge etc.).
  • Identification of industry trends and development related to sourcing and category management by attending conferences, participating in training, and conducting market research on techniques and tools.

  • Define KPIs for each onsite fermentation process and lead projects to drive continuous improvement
  • Lead a team of Process Technologists to maintain and communicate control charts of fermentation KPIs to identify improvement opportunities
  • Lead and support optimisation initiatives to increase yield, reduce cycle time, reduce costs and enhance safety and product quality
  • Collect and analyse process data statistically and build models to support decisions
  • Provide SME in aseptic design and SIP/CIP systems to reduce contamination and improve bioburden control
  • Support downstream operations (centrifugation, filtration, spray drying, evaporation) for reliable, high-performing operations
  • Support and execute successful tech transfer to manufacturing partners including SOPs, equipment qualification and training
  • Work cross-functionally with R&D A, QA/QC, engineering, production and strain teams; translate requirements into actionable plans
  • Mentor and coach junior scientists and technologists
  • Maintain rigorous documentation of methods, results and SOPs; contribute to IP capture and patent support
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to lab and process safety and adhere to biosafety, hygienic design and quality standards (BSL-2, GMP, FSMA, HACCP, ISO food-grade)
What You Can Bring To The Role
  • Ideally PhD qualified in Biochemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Fermentation Engineering, or a related technical degree
  • Proven industry experience with a strong background in fermentation, biochemical engineering and aseptic design
  • Expertise in yeast fermentation highly desired
