Position: Software Engineering Manager Introduction to the Team

Private Label Solutions (PLS) is the B2B arm of Expedia Group, bringing our innovative technology and distribution solutions to partners worldwide. Our clients include global financial institutions, corporate managed travel, offline travel agents, and major airlines.

We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on building the foundational technology behind Expedia Partner Solutions’ Credit and Billing platforms. Your work will enable millions of travelers to access the right travel products at the right time!

Your Role

As part of the Core Technology organization, you will:

  • Lead an agile engineering team delivering high-scale, high-availability services for partner credit and billing use cases.
  • Own the technical execution and delivery plan across a core strategic project, collaborating with TPM and Product peers.
  • Drive operational excellence, including testing strategies, SLAs, observability, and production readiness.
  • Influence architecture and system design decisions, advocating for clean code, reusability, and long-term maintainability.

Experience and Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • A proven track record of building and leading high-performing, distributed teams across multiple technologies or domains.
  • Deep experience in backend or full-stack development, with a solid grasp of service-oriented and event-driven architecture.
  • The ability to coach engineers through system design and performance trade-offs.
  • Experience collaborating with TPMs and product managers on roadmap planning and prioritization.
  • A strong grasp of cloud-native practices and modern development tools (we use AWS, Kotlin, Kafka, Terraform, etc.).
  • Experience in hiring, developing, and retaining talent in a fast-paced environment.

here !nThe Payments TeamnThe goal of the Payments team is to enable revenue generation for the entire Proton ecosystem. This comes in the form of introducing new payment methods for users to architecting our client libraries. This team has impact across all of Proton's products and is critical to the success of the business as a whole.nAs Proton is a global Company, the Payments Team works to continuously expand the possibilities for users to pay with various payment methods, beyond just plain credit cards or Paypal.nThe team works in tight collaboration with the Account Team (responsible for the Proton user lifecycle), the Proton Finance team, and every single Business Unit to ensure that plans, promotions and pricing meet user expectations.nThe mission of the team is to empower anyone in the world who wish to use Proton services, to become a Proton subscriber by building enticing interfaces, being able to progressively reach global markets, by providing the methods and tooling allowing users to pay, and for the Proton organization to properly being able to measure growth, and to follow the relative financial regulations.nTech Stack and Tools:nDifferently than many other stacks at Proton, the Payments stack depends largely on external services such as payment providers, tax-information providers, currency-conversion providers. Why this job matters

Our team develops, maintains and operate big data platforms for one of our major customers. Comprised of Apache Hadoop components, Elasticsearch, and a significant number of in-house developed applications to simplify end user's interactions with the platforms, these are built on a large remote Linux (predominantly) estate. The platform supports a suite of tools for storing, enriching, querying and visualising large amounts of data. The requirements can change at short notice, so the team uses a DevOps methodology to react to these changes and continue to provide the best customer service.

In this role you will be a key driver in improving our customer's cyber capability. The customer will look to you as one of the technical experts for a range of activities where you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in many areas. You must be a self-motivated individual, with the ability to make changes that improve our services and will be involved in short-, medium- and long-term strategy for this customer and wider BT security policy.

Due to the sensitive nature of this role you WILL be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance ( An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

This role is based in London. Onsite (5 days office based). Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-6pm (flexible) 37.5 hours per week. You must already have DV UKIC clearance to start this role. Must have lived in UK for 10 years+ in order to attain this clearance.

Responding to issues that are raised either by automated dashboards, by our users, or through proactive monitoring routines that you will develop.nLooking at existing dashboards and creating new ones to monitor systems.nWriting new system critical applications for high volume, high velocity record analysis and innovative query based on our user's requirements.nLooking for performance improvements in the existing codebase, or researching and implementing new ways to store and query the data.nTaking part in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to other team members commits.nUpdating support documentation and providing training to our 1st line teams.nEssential Skills
