More about your role   

You will carry out joinery work on domestic properties, including new installations and repairs, working to specifications and reports. You'll collaborate with your supervisor and scheduler to meet deadlines while focusing on cost-efficiency and delivering value to customers. You'll complete work to the highest quality standards, protect customers' homes and belongings, and organise your schedule with your supervisor. Working as part of a team, you'll liaise with colleagues and clients to ensure excellent service. You'll also support KPIs, maintain professionalism, complete required documentation, and supervise or train apprentices when needed, all while following Health & Safety guidelines and the Group's policies. As part of our employment checks, this role will require you to complete a satisfactory Basic DBS check.

Essential Criteria 

  • Have a NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent  or can display competencies & experience by way of ‘time-served' (employment history review)
  • Hold a valid driving license

You must be technically competent with a qualification at City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent), or have relevant experience. You'll need to work to strict deadlines and high-quality standards, undertake multi-skilling tasks, and communicate effectively. A current driving licence is essential. Ideally, you'll be IT literate or willing to learn software-based systems after training.

  • Attending and reporting to Daily Stand Up Meetings (DSUM)
  • Design activities including;

– Holding requirement elicitation workshops

– Coordinating and undertaking analysis (Hazard identification, Analysis and Assessment)

– Risk reduction activities (reducing risk ALARP)

– Defining suitable design options and analysing options

  • Applying a systems engineering approach to safety products including Working within a centralised modelling tool
  • Technically leading and coordination a small safety team as required
  • Preparing safety assessments as required to support system design and development
  • Preparation of Design Safety Justification supporting inputs
  • Providing Safety SME to product design and gate reviews
  • Governing and assuring parts of the organisation
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of a healthy product Safety Culture within the team and wider business

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Familiarity with UK Defence Standard and publications such as Defence Standard 00-56, Defence Standard 00-55, DSA-01, DSA-02
  • Good working knowledge of safety analysis techniques such as:

– Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)

– Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

– Event Tree Analysis (ETA)

– Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)

– System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA)

  • STEM degree with Product Safety experience within a regulated industry
  • Good working knowledge of the requirements of IEC 61508 and/or IEC 61511 for complex Software and Hardware Safety Instrumented Systems

Desirable:

  • Experience of model-based Systems Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status or working toward chartership
  • Experience within the Defence Industry
  • Familiarity with Cyber-Safety concepts
  • Experience of development of complex Systems of Systems (SoS)
  • Knowledge of Safety standards and practices outside of the Defence domain such as Civil Aerospace, Rail, Oil & Gas or other Process Industries

  • Undertake peer reviews or checking/verification of peers’ solutions across Maritime Services

  • Undertake technical reviews, verify and authorise software engineering designs

  • Act as an Engineering technical lead for a software solution at a sub-system level

  • Maintain a software solution to address reported defects and/or add new functionality

  • Support the development of individuals and teams to enhance skills and competencies

  • Produce or assist in the creation of software estimates for sub-systems

Your skills and experiences:

  • Good experience of using at least one high level programming language

  • Considerable experience of using a high-level design methodology – knowledge of UML

  • Strong experience of all aspects of the software lifecycle and good knowledge of software lifecycle models (e.g. Waterfall, Agile)

  • Have a BEng/BSc in Computer Science or other relevant Engineering or Numerate subject (technology, engineering or science related discipline)

  • Have good knowledge of appropriate software standards (e.g. ISO/IEC/IEE 12207)

  • Knowledge of Ada95

  • Have a CEng or equivalent level of capability or working towards CEng status

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of configuration management and experience of a configuration management tool

  • An understanding of model-based techniques is advantageous

The Sampson Radar Software team:

The Sampson Radar Software team is a 30 plus personnel group that provides support and capability upgrades to the Royal Navy and their products. This role will deliver software products to the customer as part of a team delivering enhancements over the next 10 years, as well as providing ongoing support to existing products.
