Role Overview
We are seeking an ambitious Acquisition Surveyor to join the Property team and play a key role in expanding the UK portfolio through the acquisition of new sites for self-storage facilities. The role will focus on identifying and securing suitable freehold or leasehold sites, negotiating terms, managing due diligence, and obtaining planning permission.
The Acquisition Surveyor will manage the full acquisition lifecycle, from site identification through to development handover, working closely with senior management, external consultants, and internal teams to deliver high-quality, commercially viable opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and secure new sites for redevelopment, conversion, or ground-up development into self-storage facilities.
- Negotiate freehold and leasehold terms with vendors, developers, agents, and local authorities to secure the best commercial outcomes.
- Conduct site inspections and appraisals prior to exchange, managing all legal, planning, and technical due diligence.
- Build and maintain a strong network of regional contacts including property agents, landlords, developers, and occupiers to drive acquisition opportunities.
- Prepare detailed and commercially robust acquisition proposals for Executive Team and Board approval.
- Lead deal negotiations in collaboration with legal and professional advisors, ensuring proactive communication and alignment across all stakeholders.
- Work with internal design and planning teams to ensure proposed sites meet operational and planning requirements.
- Manage the planning process alongside external consultants, taking responsibility for securing permissions in line with approved business cases.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and new opportunities to support the business’s growth strategy.
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in acquisitions or development within the property sector.
- MRICS qualified or educated to degree/master’s level in a property-related discipline (support and funding for qualifications can be provided).
- Strong track record in site identification, acquisition, planning, and development within a developer, corporate occupier, or consultancy environment.
- Extensive real estate network with proven ability to generate opportunities through agents, landlords, and developers.
- Skilled negotiator, able to adapt style to different stakeholders from national developers to independent landlords.
- Entrepreneurial, deal-driven mindset with a passion for finding and creating opportunities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills with strong stakeholder management capability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and property-related software.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple acquisitions simultaneously.
- Pragmatic and professional approach with excellent project planning and execution skills.
- Strong geographical knowledge of the UK and flexibility to travel extensively, including overnight stays.
