Electrical Design Engineer - Special Purpose Machinery
Location: London (Onsite 3 days per week)
Contract: 6 Months (Outside IR35)
Rate: 40-45 per hour

We're representing a leading special purpose machinery manufacturer in London who are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their team on a 6-month contract.

The Role:
You will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical design solutions for complex, bespoke machinery projects. Working closely with mechanical and controls engineers, you will take ownership of the full electrical design lifecycle, from initial concept through to final documentation and support during commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams

• Design control panel layouts and ensure compliance with relevant standards

• Specify electrical components, instrumentation, and safety systems

• Liaise with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure seamless integration

• Provide technical support during build, testing, and commissioning phases

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience in electrical design for special purpose machinery, automation, or industrial equipment

• Proficiency in EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar CAD packages

• Strong understanding of electrical standards and regulations (BS EN, IEC, etc.)

• Experience with PLC integration and control systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.) desirable

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a project team

What you'll be doing
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will have the following accountabilities;
o Create electrical designs and procure specialist packages in heavy industries.
o Design LV electrical distribution systems.
o Create the following documentation: Specifications & Datasheets, Cable Calculations & Schedules, Drawings (via CAD team).
o Review and check manufacturer document / information for compliance with

Qualities and experience:
o Must be proficient in Trimble (Amtech) ProDesign.
o Clear focus on collaboration and building relationships with other designers and
project teams to deliver cost effective and acceptable design solution
o Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and write clearly and succinctly
o Promote innovation and continuous improvement in design.
o Excellent IT Skills are desirable.
o Microsoft Office experience is essential including Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint.
o Detailed knowledge of codes of practice and other regulatory material.
o Experience in a broad range of heavy industries such as Petrochemical, Power
Generation, Renewables and Nuclear.
Beneficial experience:
o Design of HV electrical systems
