Job Description
The Simulation and Modelling department are looking for experienced engineers/physicists/mathematicians, with proven experience in modelling dynamic complex systems and producing high standards of code, to join our dynamic engineering teams in Surface Launched Air Defence, and Future Systems.
Salary : Up to £57,000 depending on experience
Dynamic (hybrid) working : 5 days per week on-site due to workload classification
Security Clearance : British Citizen
Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

In this role, we focus on the development, integration, and validation of dynamic numerical models, primarily using MATLAB and Simulink. We work with both the weapon effectors and the wider system components, in order to provide simulations of our products to our customers: from concepting to assessment and through life support. We engage with external teams and partners to integrate external models (such as FMUs, C++ libraries, or third-party software) into our environments, as well as working closely with system designers, control engineers, and software developers to support the full development lifecycle.
Automation is a key part of our testing process, and we are hands on in putting continuous integration and verification processes in place, in conjunction with performing detailed model validation against experimental or field trial data. Ensuring quality standards are upheld is also important in our work, and all of our engineers participate in this through model reviews, contributing to documentation, and robust configuration management of models. As a technical leader in the team, this role extends to collaboration with cross-functional teams as representative of the modelling team, and presenting technical solutions for system integration and performance assessment activities.
What we're looking for from you:Proven, hands-on experience with MATLAB and Simulink, or other programming languagesfor system modelling and simulation.
Knowledge of coding standards and peer review of coding changes
Strong understanding of dynamic systems and numerical modelling.
Familiarity with model-based design methodologies, the software development cycle, and systems engineering processes.
Knowledge of scripting and automation (MATLAB scripts, Gitlab, Jenkins, or similar).
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Experience integrating external models or code (e.g., C/C++, FMUs, S-Functions, or co-simulation frameworks) into Simulink.
Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git, EWM).
Hands-on experience of automated C/C++ code generation from Simulink
Experience working with Agile/Scrum/Kanban
Experience working with external and international partners

Key Responsibilities

The successful CFD Engineer will have a minimum of 3 years work experience in this kind of role, as well as possessing the following key skills:
- Experience with ANSYS mechanical nonlinear structural modelling packages is essential
- Extensive SolidWorks TM or another similar 3D CAD Program Experience
- Effective ANSYS FEA user
- Preferably with non-linear material modelling experience
- Preferably with Contact & Friction modelling experience
- Preferably with time-dependent modelling experience
- Good background in Classical Structural Mechanical Calculation Method

We are looking to recruit a FE Automation Engineer with particular focus on automating tasks within the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) process for aircraft structures, using tools like MSC Nastran/Patran, HyperMesh, and scripting languages like C++, TCL, Python and VBA.
- As an Automation engineer you will be involved in developing and implementing automated solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy in structural analysis, including model building, analysis execution, and results processing.
- You will also work on improving FEA methodologies, processes and ensures the structural integrity of various components. This role requires a strong foundation in software engineering, FEA principles, and a good understanding of engineering processes.
Your Profile
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining C++ applications for automating FEA workflows, including pre-processing, simulation execution, and post-processing.
- Automating the creation of FE models, running simulations, and analysing results using tools like Abaqus, HyperMesh, or similar.
- Utilizing scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automating tasks, data manipulation, and integration with other tools.
- Working with tools like Snakemake, linters, and CI/CD pipelines to ensure efficient and reliable software development and deployment.
- Understanding and potentially developing solutions for distributed FEA simulations, leveraging knowledge of communication protocols and frameworks.

Skills and Qualifications:
