Responsibilities
All hardware development is carried out in accordance with the Flusso quality management system (QMS) and specifically the Hardware Development and Release Management Process.
General project responsibilities
- Maintain understanding of goals and timescales for new product and technology development programs, particularly in respect of the hardware developments that are required, which can include
- Reference designs for Flusso sensor application solutions, incuding
- Variants with features that support firmware development (such as debug connectors)
- Test interface adapters (such as pogo pin boards)
- Evaluation Kit hardware that will be used by customers to assess the functionality and performance of Flusso sensors for their application

The Opportunity
CGD is looking for a Hardware Development Engineer to join our growing engineering team. You will principally be responsible for designing and setting up test systems to characterize our GaN power devices and ICs. This includes all steps from system concept to initial operation. These test systems characterize the static and dynamic properties of CGD’s devices, as well as reliability and long term-operation. They will be installed both in-house in Cambridge and at our partners around the world.
In this role, you will be able to develop and use your knowledge in power electronics engineering, PCB design and testing at the forefront of GaN devices R&D.
The outcome of your work will be impressive hardware systems that enable our Device and Reliability Engineers to prove the excellent properties of CGD’s GaN power devices.
This role is based at the company’s office and lab in Cambridge, UK.
Main Responsibilities

- Develop test solutions for characterization of GaN power ICs
- Design schematics, layout and mechanical setup
- Assembly of test hardware (in-house and with subcontractors)
- Liaise with subcontractors to build prototypes and systems

- Extensive experience with FPGA vendor tools (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus) and common synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis tools.
- Strong understanding of digital logic design principles, computer architecture, and embedded systems.
- Proven experience with verification methodologies such as SystemVerilog, UVM, or similar.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces, DDR memory controllers, and embedded processors within FPGAs.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, TCL) for design automation.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
