We are looking for 7 suitable candidates to join our busy and friendly team in Hull Microbiology as Medical Laboratory Assistants. We are looking to appoint candidates who are reliable, hard-working, and who would welcome the challenge of joining our team.
Our department is committed to training, high-quality diagnostics and clinical excellence. You will be joining a team of laboratory staff that delivers a medical laboratory service to the Trust and the wider region as part of the SHYPS network (Scarborough, Hull, York Pathology service). You will perform a wide range of tasks to support Biomedical Scientists performing diagnostic testing in the department. These tasks include preparation of clinical specimens for testing, handling telephone queries from other healthcare professionals, reception and admin duties, and various other technical and clerical roles. We are looking for individuals who are hard working, innovative, sociable, and work well as part of a team.
It will eventually be a contractual requirement for the successful candidates to participate in the late shifts, weekend and bank holidays rosters.
The Laboratory is UKAS accredited.
The main duties of the post will be based in the Microbiology Laboratory, receiving and booking in samples into our LIMS (Winpath) system. Duties include data entry, aspects of sample preparation in addition to referral samples and answering the phone to service users and other general laboratory duties.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to work within a well equipped Microbiology department performing a wide range of diagnostic tests and be part of a developing Pathology network.
General responsibilities
Complies with good work practices in accordance with the standards of UKAS and other relevant professional and legislative bodies.
Attend and completes appropriate meetings and mandatory training
Maintain good working relations with all staff, and promote effective teamwork.
Participate in weekend/bank holiday rosters as required.
Technical
Perform work strictly in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
Safe handling of blood, urine and other clinical samples.
Stores samples and reagents appropriately.
Sorts specimens and forms, identifying any problems or anomalies with samples.
Performs general housekeeping duties, such as cleaning, disinfecting and record-keeping.
Deals with queries from other departments or the public, complying with relevant Trust confidentiality policies.
Laboratory informatics
Uses laboratory computer systems according to the authorised protocols – includes data input and recall.

To provide a safe, well-maintained, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors by undertaking routine maintenance, repairs, and facilities support across the medical practice. The postholder will support the Practice Manager and clinical team in ensuring the premises meet health, safety, and infection control requirements. This post will be subject to a DBS check.
Duties will include:
- Carry out routine maintenance, basic repairs, and minor decoration across the practice.
- Conduct regular inspections of the premises to identify hazards, wear and tear, or damage.
- Assist with the upkeep of waiting areas, consultation rooms, staff rooms, toilets, and external areas.
- Report any significant repairs or safety concerns to the Practice Manager promptly.
- Contribute to the security of the building, including opening and locking up the premises when required.
- Monitor and report any security concerns (e.g., damage, vandalism, unauthorised access).
Hour of work: 1hr per day Monday – Friday 8am – 9am (we are flexible with the times)

Position Overview:
Job Bridge Global is looking for a dedicated and compassionate RN - Patient Care Coordinator specializing in Medical/Surgical and Oncology to join our team. This full-time night position (7 PM - 7 AM) is critical for ensuring that patients receive optimal care and support during their treatment journey.
Responsible for patient care outcomes through the coordinated delivery of nursing care for areas of responsibility. With guidance from the Clinical Director, deploys priorities for clinical quality, service and Associate development and retention. Ensures that a collaborative plan of care is implemented by Registered Nurses and other team members. Assists professional nurses with the coordination of the patients' care with multidisciplinary team. Ensures responsiveness to physicians. Directs Associates providing on-site coaching and staff assignments. Conducts Associate performance evaluation in collaboration with the Clinical Director. Ensures continued readiness regarding accreditation and regulatory requirements. Responsible for assuring the general upkeep of the physical facilities and patient care equipment.
What you will do
- Makes rounds on patients to ensure that care is being delivered according to individualized patient care plan.
- Orchestrates patient flow and bed assignments within the shift
- Assists with emergency situations, admissions/visits, and supports staff in direct care activities.
- Trouble-shoots for patient safety, assessments, and care issues during rounds and throughout shift.
- Ensures immediate response to patient and/or family concerns.
- Serves as primary point of contact for physicians and is responsive to physicians' needs.
- Makes/ensures that appropriate assignments are made.
- Guides and collaborates with Case Managers to ensure appropriate patient resource use and movement.
- Supports flow of information and communications including interdisciplinary information and communications from Clinical Director to Associates and from Associates to Clinical Director.
- Collaborates with support departments to ensure services needed for patient care are appropriate and timely
- Delegates tasks appropriately and within licensure requirements.
- Participates in quality reviews for clinical care.
- Provides clinical leadership to Associates during the shift.
- Supports Associate's development of skill and knowledge.
- Provides first line feedback to staff on performance.
- In collaboration with Clinical Director prepares and conducts performance evaluations as directed.
- Creates a positive work environment and contributes to Associate retention.
Requirements
Education Qualifications
- Post-Graduate Certificate or Diploma Nursing - RN
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing - RN
Experience Qualifications
- 1-3 years Nursing Minimum of 2 years RN experience
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to convey information clearly and professionally to patients, families, and health care teams ensuring alignment with care plans
- Assess team members' skills, delegates task appropriately and provides oversight to ensure high quality patient care
- Familiarity with care coordination processes discharge planning and resource management to ensure seamless transition of patients within care setting.
- Strong knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse.
- Ability to process complex clinical information using critical thinking to develop, implement, and support individualized care plans.
- Familiarity with healthcare technology that enhances patient safety and care efficiency (e.g., bar code scanning, electronic health records).
Licenses and Certifications
- BASIC LIFE SUPPORT
- Registered Nurse
- Preferred: Certification in clinical specialty
Supervision Provided by this Position
- Supervises all clinical and support staff assigned to the team.
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergencies.
