Based in the Advance HE Research & Surveys team, the role will lead Advance HE’s development and delivery of the Office for Students-funded national pilot of a Pre-Arrival Questionnaire (PAQ project) of undergraduates and postgraduates in England.
The main responsibility of the role will be to work on the PAQ project, with additional involvement across the Advance HE portfolio of qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods Research & Surveys projects.
In addition to this, as our Researcher you will be responsible for:
• Manage the participation in the project across circa 30 institutions in England, producing communications, responding to requests, providing information as required, ensuring the project is delivered according to timetable.
• Convening a participation (institutional) support network through webinars, FAQs, support materials etc.
• To co-lead (together with the Head of Research & Surveys) on collaboration with the other delivery partners of the project (University of East London and Jisc), establishing productive relationships and working together to ensure the project’s success.
• To lead the organisation of the advisory and working group meetings, setting agendas, timetabling meetings, co-chairing, providing meeting summaries, maintaining up-to-date resources folders for members.
• To deliver the production of benchmarking reports for all participating institutions, specifically using Power BI, excel and SPSS. Creating and running the reports directly in Power BI, cleaning and analysing the data in excel and SPSS, creating benchmarks, agreeing on reporting standards and content, delivering the reports in late Autumn 2025 as per the project timetable.
• Providing overall analysis of results data at cross-institutional level, producing sector datasets and authoring external facing reports for publication.
• Related to the above, delivering presentations and published reports to showcase the project findings
• Work with the Advance HE events team to plan, curate, and successfully co-deliver in-person conferences (one per year) based around participation in the survey, showcasing institutional case studies and convening networks of participants and advisors to share best practice.
• Manage and co-ordinate the production and publication of institutional case studies around participation
Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities – Research & Surveys portfolio
• To support the team in delivering research projects, including questionnaire design, focus group and in-depth interview moderation, analysis, and reporting, ensuring methodological rigour and adherence to project timelines.
• Support the successful delivery of significant research initiatives, and contribute to project planning, stakeholder management, and quality assurance processes.
• Support the delivery of annual statistical reports using Tableau report production.
• Demonstrate financial awareness and proficiency in project delivery, ensuring value for money and client satisfaction.
• Build effective working relationships across the team, directorate, the rest of Advance HE as well as external customers and stakeholders, focusing on collaboration, and demonstrating flexibility in responding to internal and external stakeholder needs.
In order to be successful in this role you must have / be:
Essential:
• Proven experience in conducting research projects using quantitative and/or qualitative methods
• Experience in survey design, implementation and analysis
• Experience in working with large datasets and statistical analysis in excel and specifically, SPSS
• Demonstrable expertise in building and producing interactive reporting using Power BI
• Experience in producing clear and accurate research reports and presentations
• Experience in convening and project managing group participation projects involving multiple external stakeholders
• Undergraduate degree in a relevant field * (e.g. social sciences, education research, statistics) or demonstrable equivalent relevant experience

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
To know and be able to apply the principles in the Vetting Code of Practice, APP for Vetting and the Police Code of Ethics when researching vetting applicants and associates. To make critical decisions on which information is collated for presentation to the Force Vetting Officer.
Where suitable, to conduct low level financial interviews with new applicants in liaison with the Force Vetting Officer, in order to ascertain a candidate's version of events and disclosures as declared on vetting forms, so that a fair and consistent vetting decision can be reached.
To make vetting decision recommendations to the Force Vetting Officer and to make vetting decisions that included low level negative traces. To provide advice to applicants and decision makers in relation to vetting procedures whilst accounting for the need to maintain the confidentiality of all vetting information and comply with the Data Protection legislation.
To carry out vetting project work as directed by the Force Vetting Officer and manage data when changes are recognised, including carrying out reciprocal vetting for other forces within the South West Vetting Collaboration of forces. Project work to include, but not limited to: TUPE transfers and management of data: Management of data for vetting renewals and recording of any issues pertaining to the completion of forms by applicants: Creation of data sets of all types of vetting levels to determine if a vetting level is still required or is not needed for the role type.
To manage Recruitment Campaigns in relation to vetting. Liaison with various departments across the Force and external agencies such as SW Forensics, the MOD and other Forces, ensuring that vetting policy is adhered to and recruitment deadlines are met.
- To be responsible for the renewal of employees, volunteers and contractors including higher level vetting security appraisals that include MV, RV, SC, CTC, DV and NPPV levels of vetting
- Interrogate, research and analyse intelligence/information, using Force, National and other bespoke information systems, including PNC, PND, NICHE/Unifi, Centurion, Pentip, UKSV, Agresso, Experian and Social Networking Sites in relation to personal data relating to applicants to the force. Undertake vetting enquiries with and on behalf of this Force to other police forces. To utilise Interpol for relevant analysis if applicable and to liaise with the National Crime Agency if criminal traces are found
Maintain contact with other vetting agencies and organisations for the purpose of intelligence gathering and provide a "one stop service" for vetting within the force and with outside agencies.
Accurately record and archive relevant information in accordance with organisational policy and legislative requirements.
Provide administrative support to the Force Vetting Officers
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Ability to evidence sound information gathering, research and analytical skills in order to evaluate, verify and analyse information and intelligence to make decisions.
