Crookhey Hall School is a Social and Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) School which caters for boys and girls aged 10 - 17 years of age. We provide students with an educational experience that will not only extend their academic and vocational social skills and abilities but will also promote personal growth and help to build self-esteem. What You’ll Be Doing  

During your Engineering Industrial Placement, you’ll work within the Engineering Department at either Heysham 1 or 2. Past students have led projects to simplify operations, delivered mitigations in support of nuclear safety cases and worked with engineers to troubleshoot a number of live issues. They’ve also helped maintain condition monitoring programmes and produced reports underpinning equipment reliability. 

This placement offers practical learning in a professional environment, supported by experienced teams and mentors. You’ll apply academic knowledge to real industry contexts, with the opportunity to put your overalls on and go and have a look at the plant yourself, while completing degree-relevant modules and gaining insight into engineering within the energy sector. 

Your Work Location 

You’ll be based on site at either Heysham 1 or 2 Power Station (Lancashire), within the Engineering Department.

The Opportunity

You’ll launch your career in Emergency Preparedness with our customised training programme. You’ll take on a meaningful role, gaining hands-on experience while learning from experts and contributing to the enhancement of the department. 

You’ll support the planning and delivery of emergency exercises and training events 
• Production of communications material to support the administration of the Emergency Scheme 
• Attend internal and external facing emergency planning forums – including meetings with local authorities and emergency services 
• Supporting improvement projects relating to emergency facilities and equipment 

You will get involved in a broad spectrum of Emergency Preparedness areas, gain experience of team working, problem solving, using human performance tools and take part in Emergency Preparedness and Station related training. You will also have the exciting opportunity to work on plant operations and explore other areas of interest. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

During your Emergency Preparedness Industrial Placement, you’ll gain in-depth experience within the department at a nuclear power plant. Past students have worked on safety campaigns, developed analytical methods to optimise performance, and helped to develop Emergency exercise scenarios.  

You’ll learn about systems vital to Emergency Preparedness, including safety protocols, technical governance, quality assurance, analysis, communication strategies and IT systems. You’ll also collaborate with other departments to understand how a nuclear power station operates. 

Your Work Location 

You will be based at our #Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station in Lancashire and you will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally with other departments, allowing you to get a comprehensive picture of how a nuclear power station is run. 

Who You Are 

To be eligible for this scheme, you need to be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Business, Engineering or Science. You should possess strong technical and analytical skills, along with a genuine desire to learn and develop new capabilities. A questioning attitude, good teamwork, and effective communication skills are also essential qualities we seek. You should have an interest in working in a highly regulated, safety-conscious industry with some basic knowledge of nuclear reactor design, operations and safety.

This placement is your launchpad into a career in Business Analyst - Procurement – where you’ll learn, grow and make a real impact. You’ll be part of our Procurement Engineering Team, supporting daily operations and contributing to the enhancement of our Supply Chain function. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

During your Business Analyst - Procurement Industrial Placement, you’ll gain practical experience in supply chain delivery and procurement operations. Past students have contributed to safety campaigns, developed analytical methods to optimise performance, and supported contractor negotiations for major projects. 

You’ll apply your academic knowledge to real industry contexts, supported by mentors and experienced teams. You’ll also explore how other departments within the power station operate. This will broaden your understanding of the energy industry and help you build a strong foundation for your future career. 

Your Work Location 

You’ll be based on site at #Heysham 1 Power Station, within the Commercial Department. 

Who You Are 

To be eligible for this EDF industrial placement, you need to be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Business, Supply Chain or Procurement.

The Opportunity 

This 12-month placement offers a starting salary of £24,500 and the chance to work on site at one of our #Heysham 1 and 2 Power Stations. 

You’ll launch your career in Nuclear Systems Engineering with our customised training programme. Taking on a real job at a junior level, you'll gain invaluable hands-on experience while being mentored by highly skilled professionals. 

You’ll help shape how we deliver the Fuel Route process and be involved with planning and delivering work. You’ll also gain experience in team working, problem solving, and using human performance tools, with opportunities to experience plant operations and explore other areas of interest. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

During your Nuclear Systems Engineering Industrial Placement, you’ll gain an understanding of how the Fuel Route process works on a running power station and also an understanding of the AGR functionality. You’ll learn about systems vital to the smooth operation of Fuel Route, including safety protocols, technical governance, quality assurance, analysis, communication strategies, and IT systems. 

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to further develop Planning & Project Management skills, to build and develop a network to allow successful delivery of work packages.

You’ll be based on site at one of the #Heysham 1 and 2 Power Stations, within the Fuel Route team.
