NES Fircroft is seeking a dedicatedResearch & Development Technician to join a leading global agricultural company at their Bracknell site. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the glasshouse team on a 12 month contract.

Key Responsibilities:
As a member of the R&D team, you will work in the glasshouse, supporting a range of plant research and seed production activities, including:
  • Sowing seeds, transplanting plantlets, tissue sampling, harvesting, and threshing
  • Training in and performing cross-pollination techniques
  • Conducting seed processing tasks such as automated seed counting, cleaning, labelling, and registration
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to glasshouse processes and procedures
This role involves physical tasks such as standing for extended periods, lifting, and moving materials around the nursery. A good level of physical fitness and stamina is essential.

We are looking for someone with:
  • A degree (or equivalent) in biological or agricultural sciences
  • Practical experience working in a glasshouse or controlled environment
  • Awareness of plant growth and care requirements
  • Knowledge of horticultural techniques and basic glasshouse health & safety practices

The Role:

Play a key role in technical food development, driving launch-ready projects and converting kitchen recipes into scalable, operational products.

Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Lead the hands-on development of new and existing food products, ensuring alignment with briefs and technical standards.

  • Collaborate with chefs, procurement, and technical teams to create and refine commercially viable recipes suitable for production.
  • Adapt recipes to CPU and factory capabilities, solving challenges to deliver optimal results.

  • Accurately document recipes, preparation methods, yields, nutritional information, and costing according to company standards

  • Write cooking and reheating instructions and complete product attribute documentation for gate approvals.

  • Conduct organoleptic and shelf-life testing during development to validate product performance and feasibility.

  • Manage new product development (NPD) and existing product development (EPD) from concept through to launch, including critical path ownership.

  • Present products at key stages of development and lead handovers to process and production teams.

  • Source and validate new raw materials with procurement, ensuring suitability for culinary and operational requirements.

  • Attend CPU upscale trials and support process development to maintain quality and consistency at scale.

  • Drive food quality improvement initiatives, including resolving quality issues and customer complaints.

  • Facilitate and participate in taste panels, benchmarking sessions, and regular product quality reviews.

  • Prepare and provide samples for presentations, photography, and marketing, including food styling support.

  • Maintain a clean and organised development kitchen, managing stock and ordering raw materials as needed

 

Our Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Process or Food Technologist within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Qualified degree in a food related discipline – food science, technology, home economics.
  • Demonstrates an above standard knowledge of food, ingredients, and culinary practices.
  • Highly creative and passionate about food with knowledge of South Asian, Japanese and Korean food trends and good industry awareness.
  • Certificate in Food Hygiene
  • A proactive personality, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • A methodical approach, be organised with good prioritisation skills, the ability to work to short deadlines and attention to detail.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Can work on multiple projects simultaneously with ease and thriving in a busy fast-paced environment.

What you'll do

We have transformed the market for assured Data at Rest solutions and is rapidly growing its business where we are looking for a System Design Engineer to work across multiple Cyber and Information Assurance (IA) development projects within Viasat Government. You will work on identifying how to apply complex and innovative solutions to real world problems for the development of our unique product range. You will play a key role by assuming the overall system engineering and technical lead role on one or more Information Assurance developments. In addition to product development activities, you will also provide technical support to bid proposals. This involves collaborating closely with subsystem teams to develop technical solutions and ensuring coherency across technical subject areas. IA products comprise Hardware, Software, FPGA and mechanical development.


The day-to-day

One key part of the role is requirements engineering, where you will take on the challenge to understand and help define the technical content of the solution across all design disciplines.

Your technical involvement will cover the whole development lifecycle from initial concept through development and verification.

Moreover, you will partner closely with the Technical Project Manager for delivery of the project to time, cost, quality and performance requirements.


What you'll need

  • 5+ years industrial experience in a related area and a degree-level qualification in a relevant field.

  • Must have sole British Nationality (due to UK eyes-only projects), and have, or be capable of obtaining, UK security clearance (SC).

  • Experience of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, system design process and product validation and verification.

  • Good understanding and appreciation of all design disciplines, likely to have expertise in at least one.

  • Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation.

  • Experience in using DOORs for requirements management.
