  • Salary : A pro-rated salary of £25,800 per annum outside of London (£7,050 per annum in London)

About the Role

Our Health Economics Internship is ideal for current students and recent graduates in an economic, mathematical or computer science discipline seeking to gain an insight into life at a fast-growing consultancy serving clients from the pharmaceutical industry.

Projects can involve developing simple costing tools to substantially more complicated models that aim to demonstrate the value of products and therapies to reimbursement agencies.

Health Economists at Costello Medical create economic models to guide resource allocation for healthcare providers and share insights with industry stakeholders through cost-effectiveness analyses or separate cost and benefit evaluations. These models are typically built in Microsoft Excel (and occasionally R, or C++,) employing universal mathematical and statistical modelling techniques. Model development can involve fitting statistical distributions and parametric survival curves to clinical data and therefore requires a good knowledge of statistics. The models developed by our Health Economists have real-world implications, aiming to improve the efficiency of healthcare systems by using robust methodological frameworks to inform decision-making that brings treatments to people who need them.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct research and critically appraise medical and economic literature to inform project objectives
  • Understand and apply theoretical health economic frameworks to relevant projects
  • Develop high-quality, technically robust, and clinically valid models using Microsoft Excel or other relevant software
  • Interpret and analyse model results, producing accurate and comprehensive reports detailing methodologies and outcomes

Given the wealth of training, mentorship and development opportunities that are available as part of our internship programmes, time spent in the office is even more crucial. Therefore, our Interns can work from home for 1 day per week.
