As a Senior Optical Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the architecture and deployment of high-capacity optical networks, including DWDM, OTN, and Ethernet services. You will perform network planning, capacity management, and troubleshooting to ensure the reliability and performance of the optical transport network. Your expertise will extend to configuring and managing optical transmission equipment, fault diagnosis, and implementing network upgrades. You will work closely with other engineering disciplines to integrate optical solutions into the broader network ecosystem. A deep understanding of optical transmission technologies and network protocols is essential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, deploying, and managing optical transport networks (DWDM, OTN, Ethernet).
- Configuring and troubleshooting optical transmission equipment (e.g., transponders, muxponders, amplifiers).
- Performing network capacity planning and forecasting.
- Conducting fault analysis and implementing corrective actions for network issues.
- Developing and maintaining network documentation, including diagrams and procedures.
- Collaborating with field operations teams for site installations and maintenance.
- Evaluating new optical technologies and making recommendations for upgrades.
- Ensuring network resilience and adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
- Participating in on-call rotations for network support.
- Mentoring junior optical engineers.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field, with a minimum of 6 years of experience in optical network engineering. Proven experience with DWDM, OTN, and Carrier Ethernet technologies is mandatory. Proficiency with optical test equipment and network monitoring tools is required. Strong analytical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential. A solid understanding of fibre optic principles and network standards is a must. About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join our expanding team and site .
The Maintenance Engineer will conduct planned and predictive maintenance to prevent issues occurring. Your role will lead or support the operational teams with machinery change overs and set ups. Working with other teams, you will contribute to technical performance reviews and continuous improvement activities. Our Maintenance Engineers work as part of a team or standalone, depending on the task. The role reports to the Engineering Teams Manager
Role Accountabilities
- Conduct planned maintenance of processing and packaging assets.
- Conduct predictive maintenance of food processing and packaging assets (condition-based monitoring).
- Respond to breakdowns.
- Conduct reactive maintenance or corrective actions to resolve deviation.
- Identify faults (electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, automation, and pneumatics) and action as required.
- Lead or support operational teams with machinery change overs and set ups.
- Manufacture and repair component parts for processing and packaging assets.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects to optimise assets or processes.
- Engineering apprenticeship (C&G / EAL NVQ Level 3 / 4 or OAL FDEM Diploma)
- Current Edition of IET Wiring Regulations (C&G Level 3, achieve within 12 months).
- Application of Safety, Health and Environmental legislation and procedures
- Planning works and writing reports.
- Verify assets meet performance criteria after work.
- Reading and adhering to site SOPs.
- CMMS experience (achieve within 12 months).
- Electrical bias
- Experience in the following would be advantageous - Mechanical principles, F&D assets, welding, machining, turning, hydraulic, pneumatic & thermodynamics systems and / or, electrical principals, motors, motor control circuits, motion control, encoders, PLCs, sensors.

Responsibilities

- Assist the Project team to ensure the works are constructed to the quality required by the Contract Drawings and specification
- Produce RAMS for directly employed labour and approve RAMS for other elements of the work
- Ensure procedures, inspections and forms are implemented, including accident reporting, permits to work and temporary works
- Confirm accurate setting out and dimensional control within specified tolerances
- Check drawings, specifications and other contract documents are kept up to date
- Communicate programme risks to the Project Manager/Commercial Manager and maintain records for contractual correspondence
- Ensure accurate daily records are maintained and communicated for labour, material and plant, including Sub-Contractors
- Ensure the Project Manager, Commercial Manager and Quantity Surveyor are kept appraised of variations to the works and any matter likely to have commercial or contractual implications
