Job Description Shift Manager (Job reference 121) Elton, Chester, UK About the role To be responsible for site operations and related support functions in terms of health & safety, people, quality, production efficiency and costs, for the duration of the shift. 1. Ensure that all tasks within the site are completed in accordance with Encirc health & safety and hygiene policies, operational procedures and regulations, reviewing safety practices and making recommendations for improvement. 2. Set standards for performance within the site, monitor these standards and seek improvements. 3. Lead all process equipment from batch plant to packaging, all material handling equipment, all ware handling equipment and all plant and building during the shift. 4. Ensure hand over is controlled and maintain performance for the duration of the shift. 5. Optimise the performance of both the site and personnel in order to ensure the P&L. 6. Ensure shift production is delivered in line with customer expectations and requirements and Encirc Ltd quality standards. 7. Lead monthly team meetings, communicating on current policy plans, people, concerns and general information. 8. Communicate effectively within the shift and between shifts to enable accurate reporting of major events and requirements to the production manager, the following shift and the morning meeting. 9. Plan and control shift personnel holidays/sickness to ensure sufficient resources at all times, within budget. 10. Ensure staff are fully trained to the required standard for their relevant role. 11. Manage, coach, develop and engage shift personnel ensuring continuous improvement of performance and individual potential. 12. Ensure all administrative tasks are completed in time, to support shift operations efficiently. Requirements * Engineering qualification or degree is desirable but not essential. * Background in team leadership roles within FMCG environment (multi departments, manufacturing processes, etc.). Glass manufacturing knowledge is desirable. * Experience managing a high volume manufacturing process, including both production lines and people where quality/consistency was critical. * Production improvement working experience. * Proven record in people performance management with evidence of building, managing and motivating successful teams on a large scale, shift working operation. * Technical knowledge and understanding to be able to answer team member's questions and doubts. Understanding of site processes is desirable. Essential Functional / Technical Skills * People management and coaching skills - ability to identify and develop team members, set expectations, provide follow ups and make day-to-day decisions. * Ability to analyse root causes and implement decisions. * Ability to develop and maintain good working relationship with colleagues at all levels. * Good level of communication skills across different levels within the organisation. * Competent computer skills - MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Company benefits This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a market leader who is seeing continued growth and investment to sites based within the UK and Europe.
